I don’t think he plans on retiring at 34 years old - especially with him having a shot at the Hall of Fame with a good second half of his career.
It isn’t being publicly reported but this is the number I heard being thrown around around the team a week ago.
I really don’t know - it will depend on how much money someone like NY wants to dangle in front of him.
Tucker is going to likely demand a 9-10 year deal for an amount double Bregman’s. I can’t see Tucker taking any discounts and I can’t see Crane wanting to give a flake 400 million
A lot can happen between now and 2026. The price of Astros pitching almost certainly goes down. I expect any pitching/outfield needs to be filled in house. I have come to think of him as a half a season of production kind of a guy. He is like a buffalo hunter that is scared of the dark. Any sign of buffalo half a days ride from the fort?
Exactly, I love Tucker, but his playoff performances would make giving him the kind of money he's going to get a hard pass.
Because rational people don’t always make rational decisions when they have external pressures and stresses on them. General managers sometimes have to win now and not worry about 6-7 years down the road. Sometimes owners step in a tell their GM’s to sign the highest profile free agent they can. Sometimes windows are closing and an owner will take an 8-9 WS guy now and worry about the cost later. Sometimes owners want stadium financing so they try to get fan support by signing a big free agent. Tucker can rake - for awhile at least. He could very easily be a 7-10 type WAR guy with health and at his peak the next few years. However- with his personality and work ethic, he isn’t likely to do it as long as others.
The loser of the Soto sweepstakes will be all in on Tucker in 2 years. I'm thinking this might be the time to trade him and fill a couple of holes. Bring back Bregs, sign a guy like a guy like Tyler O'Niel with Tucker's money and the guys you let go in arb money. Hopefully one of the prospects they get Tucker will be ready. The Mets and Cards are the 2 teams I would target. Do I think this will actually happen? Not a chance.
I don't think Bregman will get what he hopes to get from other teams. I feel Springer would've stayed if he wanted to come back with the offer he was given (perhaps negotiating a bit more) and Bregman definitely wants to stay. $200 mil will not be an option for him making Houston a prime spot to come back to.
Yeah - Tucker isn’t like Bregman or Clemens or even Altuve. He is laid back and puts in his work but he isn’t like a lot of other star players with putting in the work. To be clear - Tucker isn’t considered a bad person or even lazy. He is just a lot like Mike Scott - the game comes easy to him.
I would be interested to see Tucker hassle and sprint one time. Everybody talks of him as 13 tool player (like being our own Mookie) but nobody knows how fast he is . Would be also interested seeing him do Jeter work standing at SS. No error when you are looking at your shoes whistling . Might end Mookie comparisons pretty fast.
