I know there was a lot of buzz around Cam, but I still don't get how so many just looked pass Paredes. He was an all-star last season and got MVP votes in 2023, and everything pointing to him even hitting better at Daikin. He also led the league in pitches per PA. The guy was a complete score in the Tucker trade.
But @IdStrosfan projected Paredes on the bench in a couple years with Bregman winning MVP this season. How is this possible?
True i liked the trade i think this will workout for the astros a lot better think most would have thought.
LOL i don't see that happening at all Bregman winning the MVP with the like of Judge ,Witt , Guerrero and even Altuve . He has a big hill to get over.
I wish I could remember which thread I posted that. To be clear, I do not recall saying Bregman would win MVP ( but may have) I am sure I said he would finish very high and I still think he will. As for Paredes, I like him quite a bit but feel like he may be a guy who has a short peak. That and being hopeful for some of the young guys to breakout made me feel like he could lose his job. That has nothing to do with this season. At the time, I thought he could get the Tucker treatment and be traded in his walk year. But to be clear, I said that when I thought Cam, Zach, or Matthews could potentially play 3b. I am still hopeful that in 3 years this team has a kickass 3b that moves him to the bench or traded eventhough he is still really good. But I am much less optimistic that anyone else in the system can play 3b. I don't have time to find my post.
The Bregman ones are in this thread. “He is a top 3 MVP finisher in either 2025 or 2026 and extends with Boston, voiding the rest of his current deal.” “I fully expect in 2-3 years he will be viewed as a superstar and a face of the sport. That was never going to happen in Houston.” I believe the Paredes one is in the outlook thread but once again the likelihood Matthews or Dezenzo becomes a better player than Paredes is low. Don’t understand why you think Paredes is going to have a “short peak”…he is still young. Dezenzo is only 15 months younger than him.
My biggest issues are his body type, the fact that he does not use the whole field and his batted ball metrics are pretty pedestrian. That gives him small margin for error or regression.
Thanks. Yes, it is how I remembered it. I said I expect Bregman to be a top 3 finisher in euther 2025 or 2026. I still do. That's different than saying he will win the MVP this year. I think Alex is motivated and Fenway fits his game extremely well. Thanks for finding that.
I’ll take Paredes to put up more WAR this season than Bregman. We’ll circle back at the end of the season.
Obviously lots can happen with a counting stat. My bet would be on Bregman. Paredes has 1 4+ bWAR season which also happens to be his only 3+ bWAR season. I simply think Bregman is a better and more well rounded player. If Bregman plays 125+ games but Paredes does finish with more bWAR, I will be over the moon happy for him and my Astros.
Really hope he does well in Boston (just not against us). I was hoping we could keep him on a team friendly deal, but he made it pretty clear he wanted to get paid, and get paid well. Im perfectly fine with the team moving on, and im really liking Parades so far.
This is where I am at too. Losing the players I have lived watching and rooting for over the past 9 years sucks. That said, I understand Crane isn't going to pay these guys and they deserve to get their bag. And I am still a fan and wish them well, except when they play the Astros.
