Sex is natural too, so is nudity. So is 13 year old kids wanting to have sex. So is revenge. So is polygyny (not marriage, but a man having multiple sex partners). Your point?
fixed. Just because it's "natural" doesn't mean it belongs in public or is "right". I am not even arguing against breast feeding in public, just making a general point. One could even argue that violence is 'natural'. Anyways, I would argue that 'self-restraint' is what separates man from animal. We learn to control our natural urges as civilized creatures (not all of us, admittedly). I acknowledge I am going on a tangent here so I will just shut up now...
Feeding a baby from the mother's breast scarcely compares to your "examples" of 13 year old kids wanting to have sex, revenge, and polygyny (not marriage, but a man having multiple sex partners... using your words), tiger. As for sex and nudity, they are certainly natural. I don't recall if you are married, but surely lounging around with your lady, married or not, in the nude, absent other company, and perhaps having sex is as natural as breathing, is it not? And how on earth can even that compare to breast feeding an infant? D&D. Middle Ages. Enjoy the Ages of Youth. They Do Not Last Forever.
I'm pretty okay with people doing all of that stuff in public too. We need to stop being so concerned that a child might realize that boys and girls are different. In fact, I think sex education should come before puberty, so that kids are prepared BEFORE they have any oportunity to make a mistake that could affect the rest of their life.
That comment reminds me of something that most people don't realize about that famous bastion of liberalism and easy access to soft drugs... the Netherlands. Now, it may have changed, but the last time I looked into it, besides some personal research years ago, was that they had fewer problems with drugs among the youth than we do, with all our high and mighty "Wars on Drugs" and political rhetoric. And they are VERY casual about nudity while on vacation, or even at the beach, as cold as it is, in their own country. I was shown photo albums by the older cousins of my wife (who's mother came from the Netherlands to the States in the 1930s through Ellis Island) of the whole family on vacation at the beach in Yugoslavia (pre-Balkans War). The older cousins had 3 beautiful daughters, their father being an exec with KLM, and 2 of them were stewardesses. They were all enjoying the beach either nude or topless, along with the majority of the people in the photos. Going topless by women is considered of no moment at all at the beach. Children drink wine in France, and France has fewer alcoholics than we do. Yet we keep hearing how we're the greatest country on the face of the earth. In some ways, I think we're the most hung up country on the face of the earth. D&D. Hung Up, Hangin' Round.
Telling a baby to control their natural urges, that s/he's not hungry now is a tall order. Breastfeeding women don't particularly have an urge to drop their strap and expose their breasts; they are doing it out of necessity. I'm all for it. Our culture is too breast-centric and this would help to normalize our perspective.
color me shocked that most of you want to see women pulling out their breasts in public. everytime a guy goes to the netherlands card, i get the sense that it's more the hope that he can see more breasts than it is about concern over some oppressive societal norm.
Why not? a breast is a breast is a breast is a breast If you can see one breast in public. .. why not all breast? Rocket River Free the Breast
the way I look at it is that the child is gonna start screaming if its hungry and doesnt get fed...adn I dont want to hear that, so pull that puppy out and feed that kid. you may say, fine...bottle of formula takes care of that. but afair, breast milk is considered the best for a growing child, so I fully understand why a mother would want to feed the child that exclusively besides....I never mind seeing breasts....what's the big deal?
to be fair...most mothers who nurse pump milk from their breasts and take it out with them in bottles if they believe the baby will need to be fed in public. i don't see this as a big issue either way. i just think it's funny when guys play the "we should be more like europe...i wanna see more breasts" card.
I don't want to hear the baby scream either -- I just think the mother should be a little discreet. I think the "natural process" argument is a little weak. Everything is a natural process from breathing to having sex. Obviously breathing is something you do in public -- sex shouldn't be. It's just a matter of where that line is. Truthfully, part of me thinks it should be o.k. but a stronger part thinks if it makes a large portion of the public uncomfortable and could easily be accomplished with some discretion - that discretion should be followed. I don't think that's being PC, I think that's just adjusting to the norms of the society in which we live.
that's right. my wife will beast feed anywhere. she won't stand up and yell, hey check me out, look at my breastices, she'll just go about her business. why should she carry around a bunch of milk bottles, that could go bad, when her boobs are attached and, for some reason, perfect for the job.
I voted okay but cover up. Why? Because if you don't, don't complain when guys look. Whether it's a quick look or a Quagmire hand in pants, it's human nature.
I voted to feed but covered up. I'm thinking about the distractions it would cause. Like was spoken earlier, I'm all for seeing breasteses, but I'd probably get in trouble when I'm with Tara and do a double take on double d's.
