Can someone tell me more about Derrick Favors? All I know is he was drafted ahead of DeMarcus Cousins and supposedly he's making Utah consider not having to re-up Millsap or Jefferson. Plus, he's on this list as a potential break-out. Just wanted to know what his skill level and athleticism were. Not just for my overall basketball interests, but also cuz I'm wondering whether I should consider him for a flyer in fantasy bball. And....some may have noticed I'm in favor of the Rockets getting Al Jefferson (as some others are), and I'm wondering if Utah really would consider keeping Favors and losing Jefferson. Thanks!!!

I think this is the year Wall finally steps up. He's had 2 seasons of uninspired ball, but I think he figures his stuff out and shows his potential.

Isn't Rubio going to be out at least 1/2 the season?

Nice sig btw. Way to honest and step up to the plate. Hopefully you become Rocketshype after a few seasons.

This has been a down era for SG's for some time now. Just by default, I feel like Klay Thompson will be primed to take over a top 10 position in their ranks. Evan Turner has a chance also. Eric Gordon if he stays healthy is guaranteed to be better. Demar Derozan I am not optimistic about.

still far away imo. I wouldn't expect him to 'break out'.
Not unless they trade Jefferson before the season, in which case Favors would have better stats simply because of increased minutes.

Utah will probably let Jefferson go at some point, either via trade or next summer. But not because Favors/Kanter are comparable players now, but rather because they are Utah's future.
Jefferson will want a long term pricy deal, which just doesn't make sense for Utah. For one, Jefferson isn't a great fit for Utah's system. Secondly, Milsap/Favors/Kanter are a pretty good rotation already, and in a year or two Jefferson might become an extremely expensive backup.

Re Favors' skills, he's still raw. No range, no solid go-to post move, no reliable shot creation for himself or others in the post, a very average defensive player.
But he's very athletic, very intense, mobile. Very good at cutting, P&R, transition. Basically, your typical high upside athletic big, but he's also strong and tough. Good attitude. An extremely good offensive rebounder.

If he stops improving now, he's a marginal starter, who would be best on a run and gun teams. But I think it's very likely that he will have a break out season in a couple years and become an All Star or close.
Something like 18-9 with great defense seems very reasonable to expect in a few years.

If you put Rubio or Nash on that team, he'd be amazing. But without an elite point guard, his skill set gets very underused in Utah.
Unlike Jefferson or Pau Gasol, a guy like Favors needs to play next to a great point guard.

He reminds me of Alonzo Mourning. He could get there in a few years if he keeps improving. He's still younger than Alonzo was as a rookie.

Derrick Favors. I know I'm not in the majority, but the kid played like a true stud down the stretch of last season. I look for big things from him

From that list, my choice is Evan Turner. He should put up big numbers with Iguodala out of the way.
