QFT. I've been battling this crowd for years. They were wrong when they didn't want to trade Tmac for Kobe, they were wrong when they wanted to keep Yao, wrong when they thought Battier for Gay was a good deal, wrong when they said "DO NOT WANT" with regards to Amare, etc. So much of this forum just doesn't have a clue about basketball...it's a shame that Morey reads this forum and bases some of his moves off of it.

Good, if depressing, observation, DD. Both will always be surrounded in myth and "what if?" If it wasn't for players like the Dream, Moses, and Murphy (and so many others), one might consider this organization cursed. We'll just have to remember the good times that came with the bad. Dwelling on what might have been would drive most of us crazy, although there will be endless threads on that topic. I'm just throwing my hands up and going with next? What's next? Where do we go from here? We saw some of our future direction while Yao was out. The 42-40 team last season was a hell of a lot of fun to watch. We have to build on what we have and use what we have to improve until we can contend. Moves will be made. Fun isn't enough.

Can't say I am surprised. Such a hardworker, such heart and loyalty to his teammates and organization. That is the main difference between Yao and Tracy.

The only good thing about this is, that we become the Houston Rockets again. No more deals with China, and the YOF's, just like the TOF's, will slowly disperse.

Where do we find a Center?

    Thabeet?

Either the Rockets have the most incompetent medical staff in history (something I have always suspected) or the organization has misrepresented this situation from the beginning. Do you really believe given the scrutiny that Yao has been under that a stress fracture would be "missed" in the initial examinations after the injury? I can't conceive of that. I mean really. Weren't MRI's done up front? This is just ridiculous. But what is even more ridiculous, he is going to attempt another comeback???!!! That's absurd. This is a wrap. Please Yao, for your sake, for the team's sake, for the fan's sake, retire.

Stress fractures don't necessarily take time to occur, meaning it can also happen in a span of a few seconds in some situation. He can take an MRI every day and as long as the fracture has not occurred, no one would ever see that. Science and medicine are not crystal balls. You CANNOT see into the future.

im not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but based on yao's "im ready now" attitude, when the team was saying otherwise, it's possible yao himself pushed too hard to prove it, maybe to himself, and caused the fracture.

The team gets a lot of blame in these situations, but they can't monitor him all the time. He's spending a lot of time on his own as well.

I don't understand what you are saying. Are you suggesting that this is a recent occurrence, something that happened during rehab. of his ankle injury? He was injured by just walking around? He hasn't even practiced since the injury, has he?

Enough of this Yao monitor crap...it is not working. They should not have him bicycling after leaving the game...riding bike so as to put more stress to his feet rather than resting them?? Rockets training staffs are pathetic.

It sucks to hear that and it really hurts the city of Houston. After a long year of not having Yao Ming and this season he finally returned healthy only to be set back again.

But theres good news and bad news.

The Bad News is that once again, a stress fracture and Yao is basically out the entire season and most likely retires.

The Good News is that the Rockets can finally move on from Yao's era. The Yao's era is nothing but disappointment. Injuries after injuries, set back after set back. I know it sucks but its a big relief that the Rockets can move a different direction now. Im just glad and happy that the Rockets can finally move on after all these years of disappointments. Finally its time for the Rockets to rebuild and find themselves a new and TRUE franchise player. Hopefully Morey is able to draft one or trade for one via draft day.

I knew Yao's career was over back in 09 playoff series against the Lakers when he went down. I knew he will never recover from it, or even if he did recover, another fracture will occur sooner or later. Im just happy it occurred now instead of April, which gives the Rockets time this year to really figure out what is the best route for this team without Yao Ming. Finally a new path and journey awaits this team.

    GoodBye Tmac & Yao's era.

    Goodbye Yao Ming.

It doesn't matter about our Center position. They'll be fine. I will worry about getting a Center later. The first thing the Rockets should do is go find or draft a player that they can build the team around and have that franchise player lead the team. Doesn't matter what position he plays. Once we get our star player, then we can find the pieces to plug in.

But its impossible to acquire a star nowadays. Maybe trading Yao's expiring contract will help nab the Rockets a high draft pick or something. Hopefully Morey is able to get high into the draft this offseason and draft a raw high potential talent. No more drafting to fill a position. Don't draft a Center just because we need one. The best thing is to draft a player that will change the face of this franchise because Yao's face is long gone two seasons ago.

Wow, Yao's career is probably over after this one. The Yao era is officially over.

Not over until he is off of the payroll. And since Les is the owner, he'll probably continue to be on the payroll, playing or not.

Just accept that any stars who we trade for or who we develop internally are doomed to get grievously injured. It's better that way.

Man what the hell. I'm a huge Yao fan but right now it's not even the injury itself that pisses me off. Yao already missed all of last season, and this season's setbacks and disappointments have already dulled my nerves and shattered my expectations. What pisses me off is how we were strung along and given news that got worse and worse. First it was a "mild ankle sprain" unrelated to his previous injury, that would take him out for just one week. Then it was 2 more weeks after that. Then there was "no timetable" for Yao's return, although he felt good and wanted to get back on the court. Now he has a stress fracture that is related to his previous injury. God.

Yao has been a damn good player. The most talented player of his size in professional basketball history. A true post up center who could play both ends of the court, in a league that has shifted more and more towards jumpshooting big men. A pioneer and a representative for his nation (hell, even his race). A genuine nice guy and a teammate, whose down to Earth demeanor stood in stark contrast to the massive egos of many of his All-Star peers. Guys like him and Battier kept my admiration even as I cast off other players who I once liked but have since revealed themselves to be punks and egomaniacs. I've been damn proud to be a Yao fan for all of these years.

If this is truly the end, then it is a loss to the basketball world. Yao deserved to go out better than this. :(
