Here's what most likely caused the new stress fracture. This is from the thread "Info on Stress Fracture of the Medial Malleolus":

Sounds like either Yao's rehab curve was a little TOO steep. Maybe bringing him along even more slowly could have prevented this -- though it would've made many fans' heads explode.

Another possibility is that the change in foot structure put increased pressure on a part of his ankle that wasn't built to hold it.

Not only that? This is the same crowd who wouldnt agree we needed to trade Yao. Almost 100% of the time this crowd has been wrong now on Tmac, Yao, trades, Amare trade to this team, the direction we should take, Almost every single time across the board on down the list. Yao should have been traded for a average pretty good center when we got him to play for a few minutes. maybe like Al Horford or Hibbert before they broke out? The team wouldnt move him though. Some of the fans keep talking on their behalves only to be wrong time and time again

Yawn. Ruins? The guy is expiring this year along with Battier and Jefferies. He's no Brandon Roy.

who said it was the rehab exercises or procedure itself that caused it? I cant repeat this enough:

It's possible the surgery just shifted the impact upt he chain to the ankle, instead of the foot, where it had been and caused the previous fractures. If this is the case, then it wouldnt have mattered what rehab he did and with who. As soon as he started jumping and running he'd start to crack that bone little by little

    they're acquiring injury prone players..

i think it's the second one....yao rehabbed months longer than Big z did. I dont think they went too fast, but actually slower than they could have.

It's not Yao was having much of an impact in our offense anyway. He barely contributed this season. Think Yao should retire while he's still ahead...

    *sigh

I just don't know what to think or what to make of this. I'm not an expert on stress fractures but the last time we heard that phrase concerning yao, he went down for the rest of a season. It seems so unfair that such a great player playing for the team that we all love must endure this crap year in and year out.

Best of luck to yao and may he make a speedy recovery and get back on the court for us. If not and he chooses to retire, I'll always be proud to have rooted for him in a rockets uniform as I grew up.

and yes. Battier should be traded next. Thats the new guy who should be traded while he has value. His physical basketball years left in him is at that stage as well like Yao and Tmacs is where it is gonna be dropping off if we resign him again. We could trade him while he has some value and he has a expiring contract to couple with someone else this year while we have this window of expiring, young players, draft picks, and promising young guys who havent gotten minutes on the court yet. Once that windown passes? We have to wait for another to open. Right now this window exists. Battier would be another trade piece. That they missed out on Yao leaves us one down in that category unless we use his free agency money wisely now.

Battier has value as a mentor to a young team. That alone merits keeping him, though at a reduced price next year.

    Dammit dammit dammit.

I love Yao. Humble, hard-working, and very, very skilled. An excellent addition to our list of great centers.

All the best to Yao. Whatever happens, thanks for the memories.

And how are we going to get value for him? Championship teams either have max players outproducing their contracts or great talents on rookie contracts. With our franchise player going down in flames, the Rockets have no way to get either. How do you propose, within the next 3 years, for the Rockets to get a superstar worth building around? We're always gonna be drafting 10-25 or so and we're one of the less talented teams in the league. At least half of the league has better "assets" than us despite all the supposed "asset accumulation." We haven't been contenders for the last few years and won't be for the next few...I'd say the franchise is in ruins.

    :( :( :( :(

What a crappy as thing to happen to such a class guy.

Time for Yao to think about his life after the NBA. He has made his money and has nothing to prove in my book. You have suffered enough big fella, get well and enjoy the rest of your life.
