Thank you for the hourly updates on the increasing idiocy of our mistake-in-chief supporters. It is reassuring.
The money-raising is impressive; its a shame these folks didn't choose something more worthwhile like improved healthcare for veterans...
you know, he actually put together a somewhat coherent argument for the border wall today in his prefatory remarks to the Farm Bill signing. While folks might dispute the specific facts he used to bolster his argument, it was a coherent piece of argumentation nonetheless. if you get a chance you might take a look at that and let us know what you think.
The effectiveness of a wall has long been analyzed... too expensive, limited returns, better ways to reduce illegal immigration. that may all be well and true. but I guess then folks have to reconcile that view with the historical precedents of things like the Berlin Wall and the Israeli border. Again, I don't speak as a wall defender--I'm pretty much a libertarian who believes in open borders and people basically having the freedom to go wherever they want and live wherever they want. On the other hand immigration needs some level of control and/or regulation, otherwise it can be a free for all that can cause actual harm. I'm far more interested in this current fundraising effort because in a mere three days they've raised $7.5 million (and it will likely be close to $9 million before tonight's Rockets game starts) from the "little people" with little or no publicity, just social media and word of mouth. When is the last time you saw a bunch of people devoted to a progressive or left-leaning issue raise 9 million dollars in three days? out of their own pockets? I don't think we've seen anything like this before. Ever.
fine, I know what you're suggesting with your sarcasm, but that just means you're not really open to listening to hearing anyone's arguments but your own. I'm good with that.
There was one for sexual assault survivors, it raised 22 million. A lot of these online fundraisers are really hot the first week or so then eventually kind of slow down. Right now all that's been revealed from that particular fundraiser is that there are 100k people or so that support Trump's wall. That's not too surprising.
Fine... just as I really don't need to listen to tobacco industry "scientists" explain why cigarette smoking isn't that harmful, I don't need to listen to oil industry "scientists" argue why reducing regulations and opening up public lands to drilling isn't that bad for the environment. I am close-minded like that..
thanks for that. here's a list of the top five, that one is the highest total raised ever https://nationalpost.com/pmn/sports-pmn/hockey-sports-pmn/here-are-the-top-five-gofundme-campaigns
The trump wall one actually has far more people too. 100k, that one had 21k, so the volume is a lot more. It may very well raise more but if it hasn't in a week then it'll likely die down.
