I understand he used that to breach the locked entrance. He really thought it out.

Well you should have no issue with us banning them then. Anything thar makes it more difficult to get them is worth it.

Rifles are usually made in a way that they can't be concealed. I'm reading he didn't leave the rifle in his car now. I understand how he got the handguns inside, but how did he sneak in a rifle?

Exactly. Someone, somewhere screwed up... and if he used the rifle to breach the door that isn't exactly quiet, or easy. A rifle is NOT optimal for breaching a door.

I know of several servicemen who customized their own rifles, including completely changing out barrels, stocks and triggers. I know one person in the Army special forces that bought his own rifle and sidearm of choice. Again, I do not know of the current rules when it comes to returning home with their weapons, but I know my father did return with his, which he said he bought himself in 1967. I've personally helped buy body armor for several soldiers that went to my church around 2004 because they said theirs was too bulky. Either way, it has absolutely nothing to do with the current topic.

Apparently he shot his way through a window. I'm not sure if this was at the front or where exactly.

I just heard that Lanza used the rifle to do all of the killing and only used one of the handguns to take his own life when the he heard the police coming.

The only time the handgun was used was on himself.

I know several people who have served overseas including repeated tours and none of them were allowed to bring their combat rifles home with them in between tours.
I know some people who served in Vietnam and I am pretty sure they weren't allowed to bring their M16's home either.

Within the last page you've been called out by a cop, a marine, and a special forces airman. I love you man, but come on.

Svpernaut has had a particularly bad week. I was almost wondering if he was really basso or lil'texx since he has been digging himself a deep hole on D&D.

I just saw the President's statement and it was almost difficult to watch. It seems very clear to me that this incident has shaken Obama and it seemed like at times he was struggling to contain his own emotions.

Yep. I had to break it to Svpernaut that his dad probably broke the law when he brought his M16 home from Vietnam and sold it for cash.

Nice speech by the President. He is certainly shaken.

I thought the President handled that about as well as could be expected. Hearing each name was tough.

The people crying in the beginning was hard to stomach.

    Two men gave that speech.

Obama the private father, and Obama the President.

Both did a pretty good job, but you could almost tell the moment he switched gears.

Went from shaken and somber to noticeably angered in about 15 seconds.
