This part makes me very uneasy. If the shooter really was autistic or had Asperger's this may prompt a backlash against people with that condition. I have worked with and taught people who had those conditions and while they might lash out this type of violence is unheard of.

That's racist. The D.C. snipers (John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo) were black.

Highly doubt this is real. I just don't get the feeling you write something like that in that situation, let alone an elementary school child.

The internets must do its thing.

That's what I was thinking. Don' think the student would have time to write that.

These articles are interesting, in that, once again, the personality of the killer, was one of being shy, quiet, socially inept, timid. You know, every one of these killers has this exact personality in the past killings.

I feel like this is the root of the problem. Not being in community with other people is horrible for one's mental health.

Imagine how much worse it would have been had he had an AR15. 100 dead? More?

For the record, on the basis of results alone, I'll take China's once per decade stabbing (out of 1.2 billion people) over our quarterly school/mall/whatever shooting out of a considerably smaller populace.

Regardless where you stand on the gun control issue I would like someone to let me know why anyone would need a gun like this.

I guess LCII should have worded his statement better by saying "Almost always".

Yeah, I dont understand why people keep mentioning the China incident, both on here and on my facebook. If anything, it proves that we need to get rid of guns and let the lunatics use knives instead. I would have much preferred that these kids today just got cut with a knife and were recovering in a hospital tonight.

What exactly is wrong with using the other thread??? You can still state your views on gun control, but anything in excess can go to D&D.

Or at least wait a few days, when most of the info is in, then you can hijack the thread. Some people may not have access to a TV or time to sort through multiple news sources online, so they come here. Maybe something is confusing and they need actual conversation to sort things out. They dont want to deal with pages and pages of multiple people arguing over a subject no one wants to budge on, especially when it's so repetitive.

Its no different than any other thread here or the dish, garm, etc.. you start to deviate from the main topic this much and you'll be asked to take it elsewhere. Respect Clutchfans, at least.

This one is different. In most situations the right thing is to compartmentalize and relegate the tough topics to a confined political sparring arena so you can escape it. Not this time. This one hits us all, and I believe trying to duck the tough life and death matters facing all of us and our loved ones by relegating it to D&D is *not* the "right" thing to do now.

You're still acting like the thread police? You've been doing this for more than 12 hours, give it a rest man. If you want strictly news and not discussion, go to a news site.

No one is trying to duck anything here. This is all greater than any one of us, greater than clutchfans. If people want to "escape" it, they will regardless, either by not going into the D&D or leaving this thread. Why do that to people who just want info and a general discussion? We want to keep it separate to make information easier to access, not to ignore it.

Personally i'm sick and tired of people, including the media, who want to make this about gun control. Not because it's the real problem, but because it's a hot topic and when something like this happens, both sides feel like it's an opportunity to get their point across. One side says, "hey when these guys get inside let's shoot back" and the other says "hey if we take guns away they can't kill us quickly, when they come inside." Well how about WE DONT LET THEM IN to begin with? People don't want to solve the problem, they want to solve their problem with firearms, regardless of what side of it their are on. It becomes about them and not about actually making things more secure for potential victims.

You want to really protect our loved ones? Our children? Then focus on the things that truly will make a significant AND immediate impact.

No, i've been discussing and providing details for the majority of the time i've been posting, which hasn't even been for "more than 12 hrs." There was like a 5 hour gap in between posts. Plus, 34 posts and only about 4 were about your D&D, over half coming earlier today...

No one is asking for news only. We just want a thread that's easier to follow. Makes perfect sense to divide it into 2.
