[BREAKING] School Shooting in Conn. at Elementary School

This is very very sad news.

 

Please know that I am not saying this because I do not want better gun control (I do), but I am saying this as someone who thinks access to mental health assistance is one of the most important discussions that needs to be had in this country at a national level.

Just as preventative medicine is the best way to address the rising costs of healthcare in this nation, widespread, perhaps mandatory therapy, is the best way to make sure people do not get to a state of mental desperation and wretchedness to where they are capable of killing children like this, or wreaking terror as we have seen so many times in the last several months.

Families unfortunately break down at an alarming rate in our country, and if we as a society do not invest the care and attention into the mental state of those affected by this then what we are going to get is tragedies like this.

 

Never seen a president so broken down publicly. Wow.

 

Picking up my kid at school right now and just read about it. Noticed that there is a cop at the front of the school. My heart goes out to those affected by this tragedy especially the parents who lost little ones.

 

I think you might be missing my point.

 

I agree in principle but I still think it is way too early to assign motives to this. It is likely that this is a case of someone with severe mental issues but we don't know yet.

Just hearing what the shooter was armed with, two semi-automatic pistols and a Bushmaster rifle. Also heard a report that he might've been wearing body armor.

There you go again, stretching a counterpoint to its most extreme value with little semblance of what the person you are quoting was trying to say. "You don't agree with me? He said exactly that. I am making zero exagerrations.

This, very plainly states, that if someone wants to harm someone, they will do so, no matter what.

This is unquestionably NOT TRUE.

 

I think the discussion transcends motives. Regardless of motives, I believe that anyone capable of doing this was going through some psychological issues (whether personal issues that got out of hand, or more clinical problems) that a standardized therapy regimne would have allowed him to address and allowed medical professionals to detect.

Now, I admit, such a view of humanity is not fact, just an opinion.

 

Um, you just took the words he said and then added the extreme values you accused him of stating.

 

Likely a mental issue, but let's face it, people with mental issues aren't always stupid or just crazy, theyre likely to only tell you what they want you to know and still keep things inside. It would be hard to know who's about fall off the ledge or not.

As i wrote earlier, focus on protecting/securing schools.

Can't and don't want to imagine what the parents are going through. This has got to be one of the saddest days in our country's history. 18 elementary kids senselessly murdered.

If someone is intent on hurting, killing or causing harm to another person...they will find a way to do so.
