I don't get it, are you saying that come tomorrow; only half of us will have erasers or that only half of us will still be dependent on erasers?

I have to agree with the president. If Christianity or another religion was hated on a tenth as much publicly as Islam you would see some crazies come out of the woodwork.

Religion is serious to a lot of people, and it is the quickest way to offend someone without mentioning them personally. A lot of people pick on Islam, just read this thread and you see the guys saying things like force them to eat bacon and go back to your country have a lot of rep.

But there has always been racism and there will always be racism. Sometimes the cheap jabs for cheap laughs aren't worth it. To put none of the blame on the writers is stupid. They knew what they were doing. Some of you are hypocrites if you think the twitter comments are any different than what the writers did. Hate speech is hate speech.

You are completely bonkers if you don't think Christianity gets mocked at least as much (probably more) than Islam. There are movies in the US every year that are about mocking Christians in some way. Newspapers all over the world mock Christianity. Every American politician that talks about having a strong Christian faith gets mocked by segments of the media.

Using the lord's name in vein is commonplace in movies and tv. Artwork depicting Jesus in unflattering forms, or Mary in disgusting ways, or mocking God are everywhere. Southpark, Family Guy, Simpsons all regularly have mocked Christianity for years.

All religions get mocked. Islam and Muslims get hated on the most since 9/11. Don't believe me? Go take a glance at the D&D and come back to me.

The way those cartoons and movies mock Christianity is much different than the way they stereotype Muslims. One is a slap and the other is a punch.

    Um, ew.

But by saying that and highlighting that, I help underscore your point. There are so very many Jesus/trinity/god/St.Peter jokes, etc., including some offensive songs by some of my favorite bands (e.g. "Jesus standing on a urinal cake" by the Warlock Pinchers).

Nobody is getting killed over these things, last I checked.

That said, I also disagree with those who say Christianity's violence is long, long past. That's also a bit sloppy. I won't go further, b/c it gets into the D&D. Let's just say there were some very nasty people in the 20th century who considered themselves devout Christians.

    Disagree. Piss Christ anyone?

The difference is attacking Christianity doesn't really get a reaction anymore.

It's not like the Inquisition where heretics where heretics would be killed.

    Muslims are several centuries behind.

This is right. This would be like someone taking out the SNL cast a few years after the Tebow/Jesus skit. That said, it's not like all Christians just take that in stride. WAR ON CHRISTMAS!, trying to ban mosques, so on and so forth.

People may also perceive when one invokes God before preemptively attacking a middle eastern country, that it's violence in the name of Christianity. Wait, you said no D&D. :)

I think you're way off base, showing a (perhaps understandable) bias.

I wore a T-shirt in high school that was 10x more offensive to Christianity than anything these poor people died over in Paris was to Islam. People rolled their eyes at me: correct response.

Also, check out Harvey Keitel's dialogue with Jesus Christ in Bad Lieutenant and get back to us about slaps versus punches.

And in the end, this should not be some sort of "score board" competition for being offended. That reduces all of us to children.

Most Cops here in France actually do have a gun. But as youcan see on the vids, the 2 guys where heavily armed and had bulletproof vests, where as the copsonly had a hand gun.

Also the butchery happened very quickly and the first police patrol in site didn't know what they were going up against. The GIGN (equivalent of SWAT) was called up right after but they already had fled as they seemed to have planned their escape.

REgarding the 3rd man, his role in the events are still blurry. He didn't take part in the shooting but is said to have helped them in some other way (car? escape?). Then again, his existance is only based on a report of one eyewitness who said to have seen someone in the car.

My opinion is as long as the 2 brothers are still on the loose, every info is to be taken with a grain of salt.

It isn't a scoreboard, trust me, but it is relevant to the conversation.

Christianity takes constant abuse in the forms of offensive language, artwork, media articles, cartoons, tv shows, movies, etc. And while there are some who orchestrate little boycotts or call for banning of mosques (that never happen), the reaction never rises to the same level of what we see from Muslim extremists.

I just don't want to hear or see people trying to quasi justify this with something akin to "Not saying they deserve to die, but Muslims take so much insulting since 9/11!"

It's complete bs. There were OF COURSE incidents of extreme prejudice following 9/11 here in the states that were inappropriate, but that is irrelevant to what happened in Paris. Those people in Paris were murdered for artwork depicting the prophet of Islam. Throughout the US there are constant art shows, cartoon drawings, tv cartoons, etc that depict Jesus in incredibly unflattering ways and nobody dies over it.

I don't see you as scoreboarding or competing; I meant that term for slap vs. punch guy.

One is a slap because it doesn't offend you personally. The other is a punch because it does offend you personally.

    That's the only difference.

I don't even know why people are playing Devils advocate here. When it comes down to it there is no way to defend religious killings.

    Ever.

    1. The world has recognized this thing called "Free Speech"

    2. These same writers/cartoonists you are faulting for what happened did not exclusively pick on Islam. They also poke fun at Christianity, World Politicians, etc.....none of which retalitated with violence.

You are right though, Hate Speech is Hate Speech. That being said, violence is never the answer. It is my understanding that MOST religions teach this....."Turn the other cheek" and all that good stuff.

Incredible. You are essentially saying that those murdered French journalists had it coming. You are exactly what you are accusing others of being, in my humble opinion. And we aren't talking about racism here. This is an entirely different subject.

Eh, what did I expect. The president got hated on for sticking up for all religions and the last page I got hated on for doing the same. Some put words in my mouth, and others just assume I am Muslim.

Proceed. I will get it started. Muslims bad, they hear bad thing about Islam and they go blow up stuff because they are crazy. They need to go back to their country or be forced to eat pork if they don't like it they can git out.
