It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on aircraft in hand luggage. Police have arrested about 18 people in the London area after an anti-terrorist operation lasting several months. Security at all airports in the UK has been tightened and delays are expected. MI5 has raised the UK threat level to critical - the highest possible. According to MI5's website, critical threat level means "an attack is expected imminently and indicates an extremely high level of threat to the UK". Scotland Yard said in a statement that their investigation into the alleged plot was a "major operation" which would be "lengthy and complex". "We would like to reassure the public that this operation was carried out with public safety uppermost in our minds." Transparent bags The Department for Transport set out the details of the security measures at UK airports. I was handed a piece of paper saying that pretty much nothing could be taken on board the plane Joe Lynam BBC journalist at Gatwick Passengers will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK, the department said. Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags. "We hope that these measures, which are being kept under review by the government, will need to be in place for a limited period only," the statement said. BBC journalist Joe Lynam encountered the increased security measures at Gatwick airport. "I was handed a piece of paper saying that pretty much nothing could be taken on board the plane," he said. "Everything had to be checked in and that includes mobile phones, ipods, wallets - even spectacle cases had to be checked in."
Yeah I was wondering why it was in D+D. Good job. I am pissed that now I cannot carry my doc kit on flight with me, damn these terrorists, dont they realize that luggage gets lost often and I need my effin saline solution???? DAMN THEM TO HELL. Again, nice job spies!!!
Thank GOD! I'm glad they discovered this! I don't mind the extra security in airports, better be safe than sorry! Chalk up one for the good guys!
These terrorists have a similar motivation to the Hezbollah terrorists. To me, they are on the same team.
Then you could stand to do some more reading up on Hezbollah. They are certainly terrorists. But they have not attacked American Civilians, they were formed to drive out an army that was occupying their land, they have nowhere near the philosphy on killing civilians that Al Qaeda does, and have never adopted the strategy of blowing up planes. I don't mind bad mouthing Hezbollah, as they are guilty of acts of terrorism, and aren't careful enough to avoid killing innocents in their war against Israel. Hezbollah should be bad mouthed, but it shouldn't be ignorant bad mouthing.
"Excuse me, sir, you are going to have to leave everything behind if you want to board this flight! At this time, we are boarding naked people only beginning with ladies first. Men, please apply your blindfolds." They should put every one of those individuals away for life. You want to be a martyr? Do it in a 8' x 10' cell.
It's a scam. They want you to visit the airport store and buy their saline solution along with hair gel, shaving cream, suntan lotion, toothpaste, and mouthwash every time you arrive at your destination. Dang, I'm going to open up my own little hut right where you pick up your luggage and call it "Surf's Hut".
LOL ... potential entrepreneurs oughta make note to themselves: tough transparant plastics capable of holding any travel-related stuff will be the next big booming business.
Keep reaching for those straws, you might get there... Back on topic, good news, but it's troubling that they still don't have a system in place which would scan every luggage that goes on every single plane. You would think that would be a priority...
The article didn't mention what type of people they had arrested. Or has it come to a point where we can assume that they are of Arab or south Asian descent?
What is amazing is that these are all UK born people, someone is doing some serious brain washing in the Muslim community over there. DD
So are you insinuating that these terrorists have nothing in common with the Hezbollah terrorists? I could think of at least one thing they have in common.
they're "british muslims of pakistani descent", although you really have to dig through the pc crap to get that info.
