Exactly. You can't tell me that because the guy doesn't speak English that he had no idea they were trying to get his attention. If you stand out front of a government building which is a known terrorist target, dressed in all black with two suitcases next to you, you can't expect to just be left alone. I'm admittedly a fairly liberal person too.

I need a second opinion on how this should have been handled.

Let's send a caucasian American to a Asian country's capital with a couple of bags and have him stand and stare at the capital building and not respond to officer's orders.

Amazing how if they thought this was an "explosive" the ones who football tackled him down were not wearing much to nothing for protection ...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Come to think of it I saw alot of short sleeve during the melee....

If I cared that he got Terry Tated, I would, but since you seem to care about it so much, you should buy the ticket.

Oh yeah, because long sleeves or even body armour would have protected them from an explosion...

The dude was standing there, no one was around him, he's got the swat team aiming at him and he's not doing anything..the dude looks like he's gonna go kung fu any second

something is wrong with that guy and I don't blame the police for taking him down

they drag him and he doesn't even get up..something was wrong with him

I think the way he went down, he may have had the wind knocked out of him. He looked pretty lifeless whilst being dragged like a rag doll.

Pretty much agree with those who think the cops had to do what they did. Jeff put it perfectly, it was a no win situation for the cops.

I'm interested in what they meant by the guy being 'known' to the local cops.

They'll think that they have an idiot representing them. I'd be pissed at this fool if I were part of their community. He got what he had coming to him.

I'm pretty sure that an overwhelming majority of the Asian community recognizes that this guy does not even register a blip on the radar with respects to representing the Asian community.

Yes, the cops are in a no-win situation, politically. Yes, the guy acted very strangely with police. Were police justified in taking him down? What was he charged with anyway? Loitering?

I just saw the video at home. Is it just me or was that tackle overated? Jeez, he got tackled from a slow trot.

It's not worthy of any Triple T reference, and I sincerely apologize for alluding to the great Triple T in the tackle.

This little stunt is wasting police and military resources. For this, this man should be prosecuted. You do not go up to the Capitol and "play bomb threat" and expect it to go unnoticed. We live in uncertain times and you just can not take the chance of assuming that he does not have a bomb. That is irresponsible. Had a bomb blown up part of the Capitol, financial markets would have melted down, affecting all of your 401k plans. Security would have been increased everywhere. YOU would have been affected. Period.

Anyone saying that this is silly just doesn't get it. We have to act in situations like this. Leave nothing to chance -- especially highly suspicious situations like this. It astonishes me that people can't recognize this.

as for why he would be noticed, DoD said he was standing there for 20 minutes. i don't know anything about the security for the capitol building, but presumably a sizable number of people are surveying the grounds around it at any given time. after a while, a guy in all black, standing stationary with a suitcase on each side is going to come to your attention.

as for what the police did, i have no problem with it. from Clutch's picture, it's clear he saw the police so he can't claim ignorance to the situation developing around him. policemen with guns yelling at me would tend to get my attention. even if he didn't speak english, a lot of policemen with guns yelling at you should probably let you know you better acknowledge them or get your hands in the air or something.

that's what i'm saying. his neck moved pretty good but the guy hit him on a slow, paced out trot. i'm sure it hurt landing on the ground and his neck is probably a little sore, but he wasn't going to be paralyzed from it or anything. lets face it, that's what happens when policeman tell you to do something and you ignore them and keep acting weird. like Rashmon said, you're asking for an ass-whooping whether you actually deserve it or not.

i don't what the charge would be, but ignoring police orders to the point they have to tackle you has to have some sort of charge associated with it. maybe he won't even get charged or sentenced but i would think that would be why he gets it, and not the standing around part.

Reasonable cause? I don't know if that applies at all, but it sure does sound like a reasonable cause to me.

    francis4prez,

I could have mis-heard, but I thought one of the video clips I saw said the guy had been out there for a while. Of course the early reports also said he had 2 "bags" and not 2 "suitcases".

Has anyone heard how long he really had been standing out there?

The Police aren't doing anything wrong, but I think TJ is overreacting a bit...most people here a joking a bet. And that dude is getting charged with "disobeying police orders" which makes sense to me.

    Anyhow, back to Clutch's picture:

If that dude started flying around and going Matrix on everyone it would have been over. I mean, that would have been the most spectacular awesomest unbelievable thing ever since Jesus performed miracles.
