Probably forever - if I'm not mistaken, the US tries its soldiers in its own courts under the UCMJ.

The US had pushed hard to keep bases there beyond 2011. Now you guys are giving Obama credit, that's funny. The puppet, Al-Maliki was all for it.

This. I believe the DoD likes to use mercenaries anyways because of their murky legal status in the eyes of international courts.

Gone but not truly gone. It's the statesman's way of doing things...

Looking at the way things have gone lately in Egypt and Libya, I have to wonder if Saddam would have been overthrown by now had we not invaded Iraq after 9/11.

Not that I want to continue an occupation, but I feel a little uneasy leaving with the amount of corruption that's in the democracy we helped build. I think they are still in danger of a new autocracy.

If we're dealing in hypotheticals, would the Arab Spring have happened if we didn't invade Iraq?

Props to Bush for negotiating this mutually agreeable and achievable time table before leaving. Props to OBama for sticking to Bush's time table.

The initial bidding went to Chinese and Russian oil giants, which got great media coverage but in the end they were handed over to a bunch of US and European oil companies. The Western world has the technology to carry out the contracts at the lowest cost and the greatest production capacity so it was obvious they got the biggest fields. Also till 2006 the US government was paying for reconstruction, but now that the oil is flowing, most of the contractors are billing Iraq now. It is lucrative business to destroy and rebuild, especially when the country has OIL. Don't think Bush was expecting the Iraqis to be so damn crazy. IF it had gone smoothly, your man would have been in Iran.

The Repubs have nobody that appeals to the general masses, and Obama has a pretty interesting record....the economy still sucks, but that mess will take a long time to clean up.

Otherwise he has had a pretty good year.

There isn't a single metric that supports this.
