You are in the minority. Or you didn't grow up in the 80s. Or you weren't around in the 80s. It must be something similar to that. Are you young?

I was born in 1984, so the only MJ I ever knew was the creepy, white, child molester (I'm not saying he did it; I'm saying this was his image). I never was into his music -- Thriller was before my time (good album though), and there was better popular music for me (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Green Day, etc.) than was MJ was putting out at the time.

Still, one of the nation's 3 great MJs had died. God help us when Mike James has to go. *tear*

Funny, I grew up in the 80's but never liked his 80's material. Only a decade or 2 later did it start growing on me.

I've always loved Off The Wall, though.

This post may get lost in the shuffle, so I apologize if I never see any of its replies or address anything that may be brought up later. This thread is just that big. However, reading some of the stories coming out about Michael's poor health, there are a lot of parallels to the death of Howard Hughes. A secluded, overly-protected recluse with compulsive diets and tons of minders who don't have the guts to speak up. This report in People magazine highlights the shock felt by some fans after seeing him days before his death and his awful physical appearance. When he started going downhill decades ago, nobody had the courage to recognize it and tell the most popular man in the world that he was doing something wrong and destructive, just like Hughes. Both of them became bizarre cases in physical manipulation and oddity and it sounds like they were both heavily drugged in their later years.

This just goes to show that overwhelming fame is not what it's cracked up to be. Both men were brilliant, talented, and cultural icons that didn't wholeheartedly embrace the limelight.

he looked awful in person in 2001, everyone in the room let out a collective gasp when he walked in, it was so surreal, he looked not human...

I must admit that I was thinking earlier yesterday that this could all be one elaborate stunt to promote the London "Comeback" Tour...

Elvis and Tupac would be proud.

The doctor who was with Michael Jackson at the time of his death has been identified as a cardiologist from Houston, Texas.

KHOU in Houston reports the man is Dr. Conrad Robert Murray, who had been living with Jackson in his rented mansion. We're told Murray attempted to revive Michael until paramedics showed up at the scene.

The station reports the car that was towed from Michael's house last night was registered to Murray's sister. Law enforcement is looking for the doctor so they can question him.

She grew up in Sweden. Perhaps she didn't grow up listening to him.

    I'm not a fan either.

I can appreciate his talent but it never was my cup of tea.

I completely can't stand him as a person but this isn't the place for that discussion.

    RIP Mike

I'm not one to patronize Hoffy's conversation topics but is Michael Jackson really up there with Elvis and The Beatles as far as cultural music icons? No mention of Dylan just because he didn't sell as much?
