[Breaking News] mass shooting at black church in Charleston, SC

Looks like a kid.

 

Its unfortunate but thats how some people see it. People generalize entire races. If its a mass killing, must be a white guy. Somebody got killed by the cops? Must be a black kid resisting arrest. There was a bombing? Yup, Muslim dude.

This is like old school racism, shooting up a black church, wow. Hes a terrorist anyway you slice it and should be treated as such. But instead of calling it like it is, they are going the metal illness route.

 

Probably because it's a legitimate theory.

 

I went to charleston for work last year and it's a cool historic town.

 

Most other developed countries don't send their mentally ill to prison instead of psych hospitals, either.

Seems like America completely abandoned the idea of mental health back in the 70s/80s. Shuttered so many clinics.

 

Horrible and sympathy towards those affected and hope they catch this guy soon.

Someone like this is likely to do something like this again.

 

A lot of people still have the idea that mental illness is some sort of personal defect that can be corrected if people just had more will to act and behave like everyone else. Many who are mentally ill are regarded more as a nuisance.

That type of thinking has driven a lot of the thinking why mental illness isn't treated the same as physical illnesses.

 

Definitely has character to it.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The FBI has identified the gunman in the deadly shooting at a Charleston, South Carolina, church as 21-year-old Dylann Roof, the Charleston Post and Courier newspaper said on its website.

Reuters could not immediately confirm the suspected shooter's identification. The Post and Courier, citing an FBI spokeswoman, said Roof is from the Columbia, South Carolina, area.​

If we are serious about rectifying this metal illness issue, shouldn't all horrible crimes fall under the mental illness umbrella? From mass shootings, rape, murder and cops shooting unarmed citizens in the back. It just seems like people pick and choose when to use the metal illness claim.
