I find it hard to believe his legal team actually approved of the wording of his apology.

i love how every one ever accused of anything is automatically guilty around here
well. . . .unless you like them

as i stated in the beginning .. . show me the evidence
obviously. . . they have none . . or at least not enough

That statement was from the victim and given to Kobe to sign in order for the case to be dropped. It isn't from him or his people. Given a choice of going to trial and facing possible life in prison and signing a statement for the "victim" to save face, I think he made the right decision.

I have no idea how that's going to work either, but that was part of the agreement...

No doubt. A deal is in place with a statement like that. The girl is set for life now and what can you say. Kobe was taught an expensive lesson. And I have no doubt, this is going to happen again to someone famous. Barkley is on the firing block next.

Kobe himself has admitted (albeit not under oath) that he can see how the girl thought the sex was not consensual.

No kidding, that statement he released screams of “hey yeah I did it but I didn’t think it was wrong at the time. My bad.”

God, imagine if every accused rapist made a statement like that? He would be fried!

I love how people on one hand claim Kobe's "innocent until proven guilty", they on the other hand have found the accuser guilty of "lair", "gold digger" or "psycho" etc (not direct at you, RR).

Show u the evidence? How about this one

The article was written before the dismissal. I suppose it's written w/o bias as it's from a creditable national media. Does the article prove kobe guilty? Of course not. But my general feeling is that the case is not complete nonsense. Was the girl given a fair chance to present her case from the very beginning? My general feeling is "no". And now we have an "apology" from kobe?

there is tons of evidence...not the least of which was her story.

this case isn't going away because of a lack of evidence, RR. it's just not.

and the statement he signed...the origins of which i'm still not sure about...lends a ton of credibility to her story. "i understand now how she thought it wasn't consensual.' end of story.

I can't believe you guys actually think Kobe would say that. He hasn't said a word for 8 months. Do you really think he's going to make a statement like that now. No way. I don't believe it for a second. Someone is going to get paid and Kobe was forced to release that statement. And we'll never know either. Cause he won't be allowed to talk about it. But c'mon guys. It doesn't add up.

as i understand it, he signed the statement, Phi. as an attorney, i'd be freaking out about him signing that letter...because it's a close to an admission as it gets.

was this dismissal filed with or without prejudice, ultimately? i've heard conflicting reports. because if it was without prejudice, this would be Exhibit A.

With. You would have already heard of it being without, instead of Bryant is now a free man and only has the civil case to worry about.

Seems like he's conceding the lawsuit. I expect an out of court settlement soon. It'd probably be cheaper than paying his lawyers for the entirety of 2 trials.

Doesn't anybody else think that perhaps the statement he signed is a better reflection on the truth than any of our conjectures?

He thought they were OK...she didn't. I don't know where THE LAW comes down in these situations, except that i'm quite certain that i'd hate for anyone i know to be on either side of that situation.

Kobe can't win here...those of us who've convicted him will be convinced he bought justice. It's the same for the girl -- the gold digger crowd will have their perceptions of her motives confirmed.

I hope she gets a decent settlement. She's been through media hell. I'm not inclined to believe she made the whole thing up. A couple million means nothing to Kobe, but would mean a lot to her. Unless you believe she charged him maliciously (and based on what we know, you really have no way of knowing this conclusively unless you go by gut feeling) i don't see how you cannot agree this would be reasonable.
