I second that. Kobe just got off the hook, and I think that's shaaaaady.

It is NOT odd at all. In rape cases, the accuser gets drug through the dirt. In this case, she's already been drug through the dirt; she just couldn't hold up to any more.

A LITTLE crude? Gee, and we wonder why Laker fans have the worst reputation of fans in all of sports. What trash.

    WTF was Kobe's apology?

I mean it sounds like he DID rape her after all, or maybe she changed her mind and he continued.

    Very strange case....

Yay, a rapist goes free. I can see why Laker fans are celebrating, I mean, hoops is more important than some victim of sexual assault. Well she'll learn her lesson, and just keep quiet next time it happens.

It read like some weird confession. Well, I guess he'll just write the check to settle the civil case and that will be that. Unless/Until lovely Mrs. Bryant decides to leave this jerk.

The prosecutor basically squeezed Kobe very hard by going as far as possible without taking it to trial. Kobe folded his hand. Kobe's going to pay out big dollars to everyone. ESPN radio is purposely acting naive about the case. Kobe's not going to jail, but this guy is going to be doing direct deposits into the accuser, district attorney, and judge's bank account every 2 weeks for a long time.

Okay, this is just idiotic. What's also idiotic is all you people who think they know for a fact whether Kobe is innocent or not. How many of you knuckleheads witnessed it? The fact is, whether Kobe is innocent or not, that the prosecution's case was weak, and in their haste to be aggresive, made mistake after mistake. The victim (if indeed she is one) will probably have better luck in a civil trial, anyway. In regards to what really happened, justice may yet be served (or served again).

Yeah...holy crap!!! Did you read the apology? "I thought it was consensual, but clearly she didn't, and I understand that now" I'm not criminal lawyer, but that's so skirting an admission, it's unbelievable!

The definition of rape, according to Black's Law Dictionary (though I don't know the Colorado statute's definition) is: "unlawful sexual intercourse with a female without her consent."

Your thoughts about whether she consented or not are irrelevant here, I think, Kobe. If you're now acknowledging that she didn't consent...aren't you now acknowledging you raped her?

Rarely do I play BBS policeman...but LakerMania should be banned from this board. That's about as tasteless as it gets.

That letter had to be made for the case to be dismissed, seems to me that it was either he goes to trial or makes that letter public (which was written by the prosecution and defense, not Bryant) and avoids any chance of jail time. Oh and that statement can't be used in the Civil Trial according to their bargain.
