Dang, RIP DD. What's left inside him? Don't he remember us? Can't he believe me? We seemed like brothers Talked for hours last month About what we wanna be I sit now with his hand in mine But I know he can't feel... No one knows What's done is done It's as if he were dead I'm close with his mother And she cries endlessly Lord how we miss him At least what's remembered It's so important to make best friends in life But it's hard when my friend sits with blank expressions He as hollow as I alone now He as hollow as I alone A shell of my friend Just flesh and bone There's no soul He sees no love I shake my fists at skies above Mad at God He as hollow as I converse I wish he'd waken from this curse Hear my words before it's through I want to come in after you My best friend He as hollow as I alone
ESL'er here (English as a Second Language) from Mexico. Please tell me how I would have known Pantera or Damageplan. Was there a number one song by them? Did their band members ever have a wife in Baywatch?
Damn, that sucks. Pantera had to be my favorite band back in high school. I've seen them twice in concert and they always gave a hell of a performance. RIP
I can't believe this has happened. I was never much of a Pantera fan but I always respected them as being very good at what they did, which is really all that matters as far as I'm concerned. They were REAL. Did they sing that "5 Minutes Alooooooone!!!!!!" song? I loved that song. It's very depressing that something like this could happen to Dimebag on the same night when Ashley Simpson is named female artist of the year by Billboard. I don't know what to say.
I still can't believe this...I'm in total shock. I was a HUGE Pantera fan back in the day and an even bigger Dimebag fan. His sense of humor was one of a kind!! This is unreal. Here's a post from the damageplan forum:
This is just insane...WTF!!! I also heard on the radio this club is notorious for having shootings...pathetic security
This is so sad. I live in Columbus and was going to go to the Alrosa show. I used to go there alot during my "metal years". Its a very rough place trust me but this is crazy. Dime was a awesome guitar player and a really cool guy who was great to his fans. He will be missed. I have never been so glad to have to work late in my life. RIP Dime.
Another couple songs you might have heard were "broken" and "cemetery gates" they were pretty popular back when.
The way he died makes worse. If he had died in a car crash or something, but to be killed on stage over a Pantera breaking up is horrible. Also, the two fans that were killed. They were there to see a good show and ended up dead. Anyone who has been to a small intimate show like that has to feel bad. They were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. RIP
Alrosa Vila is a crap hole. All they have their is heavy metal and rap, so ther eis a lot of trouble there. Sounds like the cop is a hero. Apparently the shooter had another victim in a head lock and was gettign ready to shot him when the cop took him down. he was not workign the event but wqas within a couple blocks. we live in a sick world, I'm sorry to the people who lost their lives last night but am thankful the police officer prevented it from being more.
Police: 'We May Never Know The Motive For This' 5 Dead, 2 Injured In Columbus Nightclub Shooting http://www.nbc4i.com/news/3984858/detail.html COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Police said an officer's quick thinking helped prevent more fatalities from occurring as a deadly shooting took place inside a Columbus nightclub Wednesday night. Officer James D. Niggemeyer entered the nightclub, and then shot and killed the alleged gunman, Nathan Gale, during an apparent hostage situation, police said. In the moments before, police said Gale, 25, from Marysville, jumped onto a concert stage at the Alrosa Villa nightclub and began firing a handgun at a member of the heavy metal band Damageplan, police said. Lead guitarist Darrell Abbott, who was known as "Dimebag Darrell," was shot and killed, NBC 4 reported. "He's playing the guitar and (the gunman) just went right up to him," witness Jim Climer said. "He started blowing his brains out, basically. Dimebag was still playing. He didn't know what was going on, and that's when he hit the ground." A crowd of about 250 people was inside for the concert that started at about 10:20 p.m. The band was in its opening song and then witnesses said a man, who was wearing a hockey jersey and hooded sweatshirt, began firing at point-blank range at least four times at Dimebag Darrell, NBC 4's Kyle Anderson reported. Three other people inside the club were shot and killed. Police said identified one of the shooting victims as Nathan Bray, 23, who was in the audience. Erin Halk, 29, also died. Police did not know whether he was associated with the band or was part of the crowd. Police said they received 911 calls from inside the Alrosa Villa, and Niggemeyer, 31, who was patrolling near the club, entered the rear of the building before he shot and killed Gale. Jeff Thompson, 40, from Texas, was later identified as the fifth shooting victim. Columbus Police Sgt. Brent Mull said that Gale was holding a person hostage at the time the gunman was killed. "I can't say enough about (Niggemeyer's) abilities, his skills, the way he handled this investigation," Mull said. According to Mull, amateur video was taken from inside the nightclub and investigators were examining the tape to see if they could determine the events that led to the shootings. There were no Columbus police officers inside the club due to a policy that prohibits officers from working inside liquor establishments, Mull said. Alrosa Villa management was in charge of the building's security, Mull said. Police said that they don't have a motive for the shootings. "Unless he left a note (behind), we may never know," Mull said. According to police, Gale had a hostage in a headlock position and moved slightly to allow Niggemeyer to shoot the gunman. "(The gunman) came on stage, from the back, like he knew what he was doing and went straight to Dimebag Darrell immediately," an unidentified witness said. Authorities spent hours questioning audience members. As calls for help came in, dozens of police and EMS crews were dispatched to the scene. Emergency room workers at Riverside Methodist Hospital were told to watch out for people who would ask for care on Thursday. Police said that about 100 people left the Alrosa Villa before officers got the scene under control. Two people who were shot were transported by ambulance to Riverside. Their names were not released and hospital officials would not comment about their conditions. Columbus police and firefighters set up a triage outside the nightclub to treat anyone with minor injuries, NBC 4 reported. Many people who were injured during the shooting spree and in the chaos that followed were put on three COTA buses and treated for injuries at the scene, NBC 4 reported.
It's weird. Unexpected things happen all the time and afterwards, I almost never have any trouble believing they've occurred. That even goes for things like the Columbia space shuttle disaster, 9/11, etc. But for some reason, this is difficult to bend my mind around. Someone jumped onstage and shot a musician to death, because he thought the musician broke up his favorite band? Hell, from what I understand, that's not even correct anyway; Pantera's breakup was caused more by Phil Anselmo. Anyway, I'm off to go shoot Rich Robinson, see you guyz latur.
The song Planet Caravan was originally performed by Black Sabbath on the album Paranoid. The Pantera cover was released on the album Far Beyond Driven. Planet Caravan: We sail through endless skies Stars shine like eyes The black night sighs The moon in silver trees Falls down in tears Light of the night The earth, a purple blaze Of sapphire haze In orbit always While down below the trees Bathed in cool breeze Silver starlight breaks down the night And so we pass on by the crimson eye Of great God mars As we travel the universe Rest In Peace, Dimebag. +
God...what a useless tragedy. I used to be heavily into Pantera several years ago. Dimebag was so freaking amazing. Someone told me one time that he was banned from most of the Texas guitar competitions at the age of 16 because he would win them all. Probably just a bit of heavy metal folklore, but the guy was that good. What's even stranger is that I was listening to Pantera's Cowboys from Hell just yesterday in the car. I hadn't listened to Pantera in over 6 months, but just grabbed the CD on a whim. RIP +
