I agree. It is disgusting. However that is the same with the media all around the world (not saying that makes it ok, it actually makes it worse). A journalist in the Netherlands said that you have to devide the number of deaths by the distance it happened from the Netherlands. and that way you can see it if makes the news. The sad part is that this also made the news in the Netherlands .
but none of them were allegedlly floating away in a balloon in a potentially savable situation. whether the kid was faking it or not, it was a legitimate news story.
I know right. Of course it was a news story, it was interesting, had potential drama....and was newsworthy. DD
It certainly was newsworthy. Again, was newsworthy. In my opinion, the whole thing was staged for publicity, and now the media is feeding into it 100%. The kid is safe. It's over.
Ok, so I'm not here to start an argument, and if you're kidding- you got me, very funny. If you would in all seriousness laugh about this were it to happen, then you're pathetic and hope you would enjoy it if it happened to your own kid.
It keeps getting better: <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-OFLdtPFIS8&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-OFLdtPFIS8&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
I can understand the complaints that this story wasn't newsworthy. But, I don't understand the retort about people dying in Iraq or Indonesia or Afghanistan. A story isn't newsworthy simply because many people died. People die all the time.
The story was absolutely 'new media' newsworthy. The twitters and message board real time watch the balloon with the kid as it's happening stuff. It's not newspaper worthy beyond a short report(unless the story is about the reach of the twitters and net folks). It's like if there's a fire next door -- that you can watch. That's worthy of your attention -- even if there are more important things happening elsewhere. Plus watching that goofy family should make us all feel better about our own families. And that can't be a bad thing.
Did some of you actually stare non-stop at this coverage? I was on the road when I heard about this. When it initially broke they said something on the radio. I changed the station. Driving back I heard he was in an attic. I can't believe this story consumed the day for y'all yesterday. Give me a car chase anyday. Now those are entertainment. At least we know how they're going to end. One of two ways: <object width="464" height="376" id="704783" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" alt="Benny Hill Car Chase Funny Videos"><param name="movie" value="http://embed.break.com/NzA0Nzgz"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://embed.break.com/NzA0Nzgz" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess=always width="464" height="376"></embed></object><br><font size=1><a href="http://www.break.com/usercontent/2009/4/Benny-Hill-Car-Chase-704783.html">Benny Hill Car Chase</a> - Watch more <a href="http://www.break.com">Funny Videos</a></font> Or <object width="464" height="383" id="266790" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" alt="Car Crashes In Hi-Speed Chase Funny Videos"><param name="movie" value="http://embed.break.com/MjY2Nzkw"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://embed.break.com/MjY2Nzkw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess=always width="464" height="383"></embed></object><br><font size=1><a href="http://www.break.com/index/car_wipes_out_in_hi_speed_chase.html">Car Crashes In Hi-Speed Chase</a> - Watch more <a href="http://www.break.com/">Funny Videos</a></font>
You speak the truth, good sir. Whenever I see one, it's like a giant record skipping in my life and I hold the phone on everything to watch. It's one of the more baffling things about our day and age.
