Well ... I can kinda see where the kid is coming from. His dad's been working on this balloon for months and he cut the thing loose. He figures "Dad's going to kill me when he gets home", so the logical solution to that is to go hide where no one can find him. Still ... this is quite a bizarre story.
Wow... I wouldn't be surprised at all if the parents were behind this after watching that. They're full-fledged loonies.
Actually, that IS plausible. I've been trying to imagine any scenario with the kid hiding in the attic that made sense other than the parents staging the whole thing.
his parents are Raelians???! wtf. this was all just a hoax to gain publicity and promote their devious ways.
The balloon was was a family project that was being worked on. It was not designed to carry passengers and it was meant to only float about twenty feet off the ground. Due to it being worked on it was apparently tethered to the ground. A couple of the children were outside playing while one of the sons reported that he saw the kid climb into the balloon and see it take off. It has never been made clear whether the story was that the kid climbed into the box or the basket. After that the kid alerted his parents who alerted the authorities and well the rest is what the world saw play out on tv. Apparently what happened and this is just my assumptions at this point is that the kid was messing with this mylar balloon and unleashed it with the older brother mistakenly (for whatever reason) believing he was inside. The kid probably freaked out and ran (more than likely under the assumption that he was in trouble) and hid himself the best he could once he realized the police were once scene and looking for him.
All of the "DEAR GOD THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" ragging on people for yukking it up in this thread are hereby PWNED by the black humorists among us.
You do realize that most of us that "prayed" were "praying" that he was alive and well.... at home... Which is he was found to be. Right? I'd never underestimate either if I were you.
I couldnt believe the mileage this story was getting - from the VERY start I assumed this was a kid who was just plain messing around. I knew he'd turn up when he got hungry... Can we please get back to some REAL NEWS.
