yeah, kids end up in homemade hot air balloons that fly halfway across the state all the time and the story had NOTHING to do with a child being trapped inside (or not)

LOL Seriously. The thing was flying at a pretty high speed with a young child potentially inside for over 3 hours at nearly 7k feet with literally no ability to control it's flight.

Yeah, what's compelling about that? My friend and his fiance just went on a hot-air balloon ride last weekend! Old news brother!

It doesn't make any difference to me what you guys are following or watching on TV, I'm pissed of that (what I consider to be) more relevant events aren't being covered on certain news outlets because of (what I consider to be) a curiosity piece. Hopefully I've clarified my position.

On one of the local Colorado websites (9news.com) the article seems to indicate that the whole family was home and two of the boys were outside when he climbed in and it took off. Weird. It also says that police said he was definitely inside the craft.

When it landed five miles east of Prospect Reservoir, 9NEWS could not see any child rescued from the basket of the balloon, but earlier Fort Collins Police had said they were certain he was still inside.

Police say the family's two boys were playing outside with the rest of the family inside the house. One son watched his little brother go inside the compartment and watched it take off.

I actually think the older brother cut the tethers after he saw the younger brother get in as a prank, and in the meantime the younger kid jumped out near the ground, since it wouldn't raise with him in it anyway... and then he went and hid.

We are talking about these jokers, after all...

Well, Moestavern guaranteed that the boy wasn't inside the craft, so this can't be an accurate report.
