We discovered in high school that you could smoke a fatty in just the amount of time it took for you to get from Alpine Village to Chinatown.
Bingo!!! Been there, done that. Once, we even threw the roach over the edge, still light, just before landing, then went and found it.
i knew that place was doomed when they got rid of the alpine sleigh ride. this is tragic. i started going there in about 1975. the last time is went was in about 2001. a flock of seagulls billy idol new order wow.
very sad indeed. My favorite job ever was at Astroworld. I used to pass out coupons to people that left one summer before I started High School. Of course I got fired for being in street clothes riding rides on the clock. Sad to see it go. Thanks Pharoah, Merrick, and Anthony for showing me the ropes and helping me get fired. I had a blast.
Damnit.. I loved Chat&Chew and thier 8.00 bugers.. I remember when the looping starship first opened and being one of the first to ride it.. I loved that place havent been in over 5 years, but I did love it more than any other theme park because it was so close..
YEP ....by MSN.COM Honestly, I wonder iif this has anything to do with rumors of Disney possibly opening a huge theme park in Katy. Supposedly, they own a huge tract of Land out there near Katy Mills Mall. If this were to indeed happen, it would make sense for Astroworld to close.
But still, why not wait till the other park opens, I mean the land value will just keep on increasing no matter what. Especially in that part of town.
So sad. I remember this one time, my dad (who is an architect) had a meeting with some clients over there, and the rest of the family got free tickets. My brother (dumbass) bought a GI Joe poster and accidentally switched it with my dad's plans. On top of that, my brother lost the container!! Dad was so upset because his clients had to get on a plane to leave. Looked like he was going to loose the account, until my brother ended finding them and raced across the park to try and get them to my dad in time, but he ended up doing a face plant into one of the planters. But I was able to take over and relay them to my mom, who relayed them to my grandma who got them to my dad just in time!!
The great thing about astroworld was that unlike almost any other major city, it was in a fairly central location and was generally accessible to a lot of people considering houston as so damn spread out. I haven't been there in so long but man I'll miss it. It definitely was the best out of the three parks in texas. Arlington's is still too old and isn't updated enough and fiesta texas is marketed more towards little kids so the rides there are generally pretty weak. They better make splashtown damn good because i'm not going to drive all the way to galveston.
They have problem making money? The last few times I been there, there were so many people that I have to wait for hours to get on just one ride! Especially in the summer, they are packed even during the weekdays.
Forget Astroworld, I'm still pissed about Peppermint Park that used to be off of 610 Loop. Now THAT'S old school.
LOL!!! The red and white striped building!!?!? Speaking of Astroworld concerts... Billy Idol, The Call and Simple Minds were a few that I saw there.
