Not gonna miss his erratic jumpshooting and isolations, but will miss his fire, his defense and his clutch shots and tough attitude. Didn't really care for him before he signed here and am now a fan for life
If Artest only got a one year offer from the Rockets, this leads me to believe that the Rockets believe Yao is out for the season. I don't think Morey or the Rockets know exactly what they are doing. If they are letting Artest leave, they need to move Battier and other pieces for draft picks or young players... Artest's game already slipped some last year, and in 2 years will probably be a shell of himself, so a 3 year deal doesnt make sense for a team rebuilding. The Rockets can clear cap space all they want, but they will need a franchise player, and I dont see that happening except through the draft
The guys here that thought he was worth 10-12M/4 years were on crack. We have to SnT him though so we get something back for him instead of just the one year rental, hope he decides on the Lakers instead of the Cavs, Ariza fills more of a need than Varejo esp. if we lose Wafer as well.
wow. dm can be a bigtime jerk at times. he doesnt know how to handle negotiations. first jvg, then this? i know ron was supposed to have been a 1 yr rental if it didnt work out. i know he didnt play efficiently but cmon, offering a 1 yr deal? that's insulting. if you didnt want him back, you could have just said out right. he couldve said they were in rebuilding mode and ron wont get a chance to get a ring with the rockets this year, so theyre letting them walk. or better yet, offer a sign and trade so Ron could get bigger money and you get something in return. like a veteran with 1 yr remaining on his contract what can Ron get from other teams? full MLE? can anybody tell me?
If the Rockets decide to take this route; they should shut Yao down for a year and not sign anybody so we have cap space for 2010. Let Tracy expire and use the high draft pick wisely. Call 2009 a loss and regroup for the LeBron hunt. I really thought this could be a salvageable year, but in the long run its probably better this way. Get ready to watch Aaron Brooks, Houston's primary scorer 2009. In Morey we trust
im with you..im choosing to look at the glass as "half full." all this means is that we wont be saddled with bad contracts for the next 3-4 yrs with an un-happy and older ron artest and an eventually broken down yao(if he isnt already). this just makes the break easier.
Of course. I only bring it up as an option since Ron is seriously looking at the Lakers and the Rockets are seriously pursuing Ariza. And to be honest, I hate people who casually throw around S&T scenarios for the Rockets involving Artest as if Ron didn't have a choice. Each would likely get above the MLE. Hence, the incentive for each player to agree to be signed and traded rather than just signing outright for the MLE. Plus, their new team still has the MLE at its disposal. My preference is that Ariza agrees to a deal starting at less than Artest's, and the Lakers throw in another young asset or future draft pick.
How can he go to LA when him and kobe almost got into in the playoffs it does not seem they like each other that much.
I don't care if we offered him a 20 yr deal little boy, he knows Yao and mac are porcelain and can't stay healthy. That's why he's bailing.
Right on. Even guys that didn't want to resign him will miss that guys attitude and fire he brings. I' am going to miss Ron.
I don't see what is so insulting about a one year deal for Ron, if it is for significantly more than the MLE. This gives Ron a raise, plus the opportunity to be a free agent again next summer, when teams will actually have some cap room to bid up his price. The Rockets would retain flexibility for 2010. Sounds like a win/win for both sides.
little boy? Its about the money...the dude has been underpaid is whole career. If we offered him a great contract, no way he leaves because Yao isnt playing. 20 year contract and he'd still bail? lol at your knowledge.
