It's amazing that some of you still don't value what Artest brought. His attitude is what made this team great. Remember all that heart and grit and everything else that showed up in the Lakers series? We never had that before Artest. Artest was saying that we could beat the Lakers as far back as the mid-point of the regular season when everyone was writing us off. It's that attitude and toughness that helped turn the team from the softest team in the league and a perennial first round exit to arguably the second best team in the league last year.

The Rockets better be going into a rebuilding mode, because if they are still trying to put out a playoff team next year, there is no excuse to not offer Artest a 2 year deal. How many years did we give McGrady?

like i said until Darly Morey, Ron Artest, or Artest's agent says that there is not deal then we need to stop listening to these so called insiders. They want nothing more then to see the rockets burn. Let Morey make the decision. Until then there is no more to say. I would love him back though.

The 1 year deal makes sense.

McGrady's coming back halfway through the season. There is a possibility Yao will come back towards the end of the season.

Signing Artest to a 1 year deal would put us in the same boat as last year.: a chance at the championship if everything works out.

Obviously, signing Artest to a longer deal puts the Rockets at risk if McGrady is not resigned during the 2010 free agency and Yao is injured.

I think Morey wants 1 more year before he starts a "rebuilding" process. Meanwhile, he'll plan for both.

Yep, Morey is a smart guy, but please don't consider other people as fool.
If I were Ron Artest, I will be pissed off about Morey's sincerity.
You know what? Morey didn't give any respects to Ron if one year deal is the case.

I agree. Ron is who he is, you take the good with the bad. If it's true, a 1 yr deal was offered, it's insulting for being an integral part of the team success we had last season. As volatile as he is, he could see this as the Rockets being unappreciative leading to him signing elsewhere or if he does sign, could be problem down the season of not be appreciated (last season with SAC where he regretted not opting out and complained days later).

I don't know what's worse...Ron leaving Houston or Houston wanting Varejao.

Why is Ron declining the one year deal? I don't get it.

Actually It makes sense. We probably aren't winning anything next year...

Either he can get more money elsewhere or he has a better chance at winning a championship elsewhere or (most likely) a combination of the two.

No it doesn't. A one-year offer is basically a big f*** you to Artest. No one in Artest's shoes will seriously consider doing that, given that he can more guaranteed money elsewhere. This is going to be Artest's last big contract. He's not going to risk it over a one-year tender.

It was a contract year, so Ron had to show the league he can still ball and that he shed his old reputation. Not saying he can now coast, but offering only a 1 year deal is like ignoring what he achieved not only for the Rockets but for himself last year.
