That's like, prepper 101. When the **** hits the fan, all the little piggies who've bee living in straw houses gonna come around and try to leach off of all of your prep work. Never ask a true prepper if you can crash on their couch, if you want to wake up in the morning. If you do wake up, you've probably hitch your horse to the post of someone destined to die from their own weakness.
I've heard so many excuses and so much BS out of Republicans as to why these documents ended up at Mar-a-Lago that they're basically asking us to play spin-the-wheel to pick one that works. It's just a big joke.
Okay let's go along with Trump for a moment. Let's say he did actually declassify these documents the correct way. Do you know what a Top Secret document is? That is the highest level it gets. Serious, serious ****. Why in the hell would he declassify TOP SECRET information?
Excuse A: some “top secret” documents that were maybe highly sensitive at one time are no longer considered as such, and it was declassified using the normal procedures (with hopefully some record of it, which means the contents can be shared with the public). Excuse B: Trump didn’t know he had it, he doesn’t keep track of all the boxes that are in his home, and he would have returned it if they simply asked for it with a “pretty please”. Excuse C: The FBI made up that it’s top secret. He’s being set up!
The Top Secret program I was involved with a number of years ago was eventually declassified because the project was no longer in development. So, there are documents that have run their course and get declassified, but I find it hard to believe these are like that.
Yep, noted student of history and man-who-read-his-presidential-daily-briefs Donald Trump just wanted some mementos of documents that no longer needed to be top secret.
My understanding is that he had documents categorized as "Top Secret" which he should have no business being in possession of as a former President. He refused to turn them over to the fed as required by a subpoena. He broke the law. If a black man doesn't do exactly what a cop tells him, he gets shot. I think it's fair to ask the person who was in charge of executing our laws and governance of our country for four years to know how to follow the law once he is not in office anymore.
That was the first thing that popped in my mind when I read his question, but who knows what goes on in the head of a psychopath. .
Trump is no longer denying that the materials were sensitive. Just saying that the fact he brought them to his home by definition made them declassified, according to his “standing order”. Wow. https://justthenews.com/politics-po...scribes-process-how-he-declassified-documents “The very fact that these documents were present at Mar-a-Lago means they couldn’t have been classified," the former president's office stated. "As we can all relate to, everyone ends up having to bring home their work from time to time. American presidents are no different. President Trump, in order to prepare for work the next day, often took documents including classified documents from the Oval Office to the residence.
Trump had classified documents intended only for special government facilities. Trump had a standing order that whatever he abodes … is a special government facility.
The Lincoln Project has taken shots at Donald Trump over the FBI raid of his Mar-a-Lago estate, suggesting that someone in his inner circle had betrayed him. "Who was it Donald? Who gave you up to the Feds?" Accompanied by a narrator whose whispered tone is drenched in subterfuge, the video shows newsreel footage of the search. "Who told them what you kept in a safe in Mar-a-Lago," the female narrator said. "No, not that stuff," she added. This referred to images of hand-written notes in a toilet, which relate to claims by New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman of how Trump disposed of sensitive documents. "The classified documents; 15 boxes of top secret files," the narrator said, "that's naughty Donald." "But who leaked?" the narrator asks, as an image of Trump beside children Donald Trump Jr. and Tiffany Trump flashes up on screen. These segued into images of son Eric Trump, daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner, as well as the former president walking next to former First Lady Melania Trump. Each name is mentioned followed by an insult. "Was it Jared?—ungrateful." "Ivanka?—they're backing away from you." "Don Jr?—your own son." "Eric?—do you even care?" "Melania?—She wants to escape." "Was it your former Secretary of Treasury, Mnuchin---He wants to cover his azz, as he was interviewed by panel probing U.S. Capitol attack
Well this is a real kick in the dick ... The above three document handling laws do not require classification; they just require defense information. The punishment for each of the three laws vary between 3 and 20 years. 10 years per violation of the Espionage Act. The mishandling of classified documents laws will come later. Donald "The Chosen One" Trump is seriously ****ed. If Trump was smart ... now hear me out ... he would plead this out and serve out his time "under house arrest" or some such since it is in nobody's interest to see Trump serve his time out in Club Fed. At least one the laws Trump appears to have broke, if he is found guilty of, would prevent him from holding federal office ever again.
