Gohmert Pyle would be a hoot as speaker.

Can't wait to witness the scrum to replace Boehner. Should be pretty funny watching the inmates running the asylum.

Sad state of affairs when a wingnut like Boehner isn't wingnutty enough for the wingnuttiest nuts who have taken the GOP hostage.

I'm not sure where some of you morons are getting that those on the left are some how supportive of Boehner. It scares the crap out of me that it will actually get worse...that someone like Gohmert could actually be Speaker of the House.

You righties should be concerned, too. If they go too far right, it could hurt your numbers in not too distant future elections. Remember what happened in 2006? You went too far right and your payback was Pelosi. She went too far left and was mostly ineffective and then 2010 happened. Don't think for a moment that it won't swing back the other way quickly should they decide on someone from the fringe to lead the House.

Say what you want about Pelosi, but she was not ineffective. She has been able to shepherd her caucus to whatever Democrats have needed, both as Speaker and now as minority leader the last several years. Despite a wide variety of views within the caucus, they have held together and managed to get their way on lots of things.

As for the next Speaker, it's funny to see the excitement on the right by the likes of tallanvor and Commodore. By Jan 1st, they will be pissed off at whoever is picked - because part of the job of speaker is getting things done and that requires compromise when Dems own the Presidency and have veto power in the Senate. The new speaker is either going to tear the government apart and cause an economic meltdown, or they are going to do exactly what Boehner has done. This fantasy white knight of the right that will shut down PP funding and repeal Obamacare and whatnot is a ridiculous fantasy.

Gingrich passed a balanced budget and welfare reform with a Dem POTUS.

Boehner failed to get such results, and was rightfully removed.

That's because Gingrich was willing to compromise. Something the tea party is not.

Gingrich also had earmarks to hand out to buy votes. He also horse traded on a variety of issues. For example, Republicans had to throw in the children's health insurance program into the 1997 budget in order to get President Clinton to sign off.

Also, in order to get his omnibus crime bill pissed, Gingrich threw in the assualt weapons ban. There are many other examples of horse trading legislation in order to get it by President Clinton.

Lastly Gingrich handed out earmarks left and right to buy off swing votes in his caucus. Boehner killed off earmarks when he became speaker.

So tell me, how would any of that fly with the current Republican caucus? You of all people would be the first to call for Gingrich's head.

The 1990's balanced budget was on the backs of increased revenue - while he slowed spending some, at no point did government spending ever drop. Boehner, on the other hand, actually forced a real decrease in total spending. It's amusing that you view the latter as less impressive.

It begs the question: will Boehner push through a clean spending bill, pass it with democrats and tell the teabaggers to go **** themselves? They have a week before the government shuts down (again under his leadership).

The people in the Rubio press conference look like a bunch of gullible idiots. Jees.

Yea, that sounds about right. Realistically speaking, if I was a betting man, money would go to a further right speaker. Republican party needs to evolve.

    During internship season :(

Republicans are entertaining in general right now. But their platform is America, and the theater is the rest of the world. This show should be frowned upon.
