come on man, that was equivalent to bigtexxx's "need for facts" bs that everyone on the forum seems to hate.

It was pretty obvious early on that this incident that the main motivation is not work place related. Workplace violence never looks premeditated with masked suspects armed to the teeth with assault rifles an pipe bombs while filming the whole thing with a go-pro.

If you need an explanation, then you probably never will understand.

    Figure it out for yourself.

Fair point. How about the other 354 mass shootings in the US this year. What fertile soil makes that possible?

I don't know - what about ISIS, Boko Haram, the Taliban, the Paris massacre, the London tube attack, the Mali murders (to just name a few of the ones that happened worldwide within the last weeks, not to mention stonings, beheadings and "honor killings" which have been going on worldwide at the same time)?

Not discounting any of that. It's all VERY wrong. Just saying, horrible crap is all around us from all different types of deranged people. Nah mean?

Also, more mass shootings in the US than days so far this year is pretty horrific. Again, not saying one thing is worse than another, would just rather fix the crap in my back yard than someone elses

    This.

How about we rise above cultural tit-for-tat and just agree crazy is crazy no matter what warped ideology drives it? Crazy Islam is crazy. Crazy christian anti-abortionist killing people is crazy. Crazy U.S. mass shooter is crazy. Dangerous ideologies are dangerous -- whether we give them the legitimacy of religious status or not. Either way, people die for no good reason.

This pattern of listing grievances to condemn a "side" (and side step questions and discussion) is exactly what the nut cases in the Middle East do. Israel included. They just run their finger pointing all the way back to cave man scribbles on papyrus.

Someday we may acknowledge that we in the US don't own the moral high ground in most moral debates. They are, however, still debates worth having.

The number of mass shootings depends on the definition. Mother Jones tracks mass shootings in the US and defines them as shooting events during which at least four people are killed, not counting the shooter. By that definition, there have been 5 mass shootings in the US this year. To get to the 300+ number, that definition needs to be changed from four people killed to four people injured or killed.

One notable instance in which the background check system caught the person attempting to buy a rifle was the Navy yard killing. The man was allowed to purchase a shotgun instead (pump action, tube magazine). He managed to kill quite a few people.

Ultimately, mass shootings represent a very tiny portion of the people murdered in the United States. As such, the intense focus on them seems misguided. It would make much more sense to address the garden variety, one at a time murders that take place every day. Legalization of drugs and prostitution would probably do a lot more to reduce gun violence than increased gun control (btw, all of the policies being pushed on the national level already exist in CA, plus even more and stupider regulations, none of which stopped the San Bernardino or Isla Vista killings).

We need sovereign control over our own country. We need to enforce the laws equally and fairly for ALL Americans. This isn't a colony or landfill.
