That MAGA Cult member Twitter post conveniently left out the real reasons Biggs got 17 years. It wasn't just about tearing down a fence.

    FACTS MATTER

Prosecutors characterized Biggs as the "tip of the spear" for the mob throughout the Capitol attack in his role as co-leader of the so-called "Ministry of Self Defense," a planning team that later evolved into the Proud Boys' Jan. 6 ground operation.

"The evidence at trial demonstrated that Biggs was a vocal leader and influential proponent of the group's shift toward political violence," prosecutors said in their sentencing memo for Biggs. "More than perhaps any other, Biggs appreciated the tactical advantage that his force had that day, and he understood the significance of his actions against his own government."

They pointed to increasingly threatening and violent rhetoric espoused by Biggs in the days after the November 2020 election leading up to the Jan. 6 attack -- and noted that he had encouraged Tarrio to "get radical and get real men" only hours after former President Donald Trump first announced plans for his supporters to rally in Washington on the day of the certification.

After Jan. 6, Biggs recorded a podcast-style interview where he celebrated the attack as a "warning shot to the government" that showed them "how weak they truly are."

In Thursday's hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason McCullough sought to make the case to Judge Kelly that a significant sentence was warranted for Biggs and the other Proud Boys for deterrence purposes -- setting an example to other extremists that carrying out similar attacks against the government would be punished severely.

"There is a reason why we will hold our collective breaths as we approach future elections," McCullough said during the hearing. "That's what they aimed to do. They aimed to intimidate and terrify elected officials, law enforcement and the rest of the country that they didn't agree with and make them heel to their political point of view."

He added, "The repercussions here must be known."

No. What a lame attempt at whataboutism.

    A. BLM wasn't attempting to overturn a democratic election
    B. They didn't break into the building using violence
    C. I don't see any violence against the police officers

    D. This looks a bit silly and over dramatic. Why were they so adamant about that one piece of barricade? Kind of a weird moment, but glad nobody physically assaulted the police over it.

    E. These actions might still warrant arrest. I'd be okay with a night in jail and a fine.

He could have avoided this by not committing a crime.

Yes. It would be the neo-cons behind the Iraq War also spent 17 years in prison. But better that at least Biggs got what he deserved and was prevented from asaulting the others as he threatened. Good sentencing levied on Biggs.

The Trump presidency was weak on crime. Not many arrests when vandalism occurred during BLM protests. Biden doesn’t allow that under his watch!

    law and order!

I wonder why people think that serving our country in Iraq, or as President excuses you from being held criminally liable for participating in sedition, insurrections, or planning and carrying out violence against the country you serve or served.

Yeah, how come these people are not still in prison? Tearing down the barricades should have consequences!!!

After reading his plea to the judge, he seems remorseful and acknowledges what he did was wrong, but people have to understand that actions have consequences. I feel partly bad for them because they were seduced by the cult like mentality, but at the end of the day no one is above the law so while I have empathy for them, they deserve what comes there way.

His sentencing was well below what the sentencing guidelines, so perhaps his remorsefulness and admission of wrong was a factor. He was lucky though...

... at the end of the day, celebrities, rich white folks, and politicians are way way above a lot of the law.

The prosecution argued that his prison conversations and interviews showed he was not remorseful at all, still believes the election was stolen, doesn't think he did anything wrong and that him saying he was remorseful yesterday was an act.

Trump has ‘moral compass of an axe murderer,’ says Georgia Republican

“As Republicans, that dashboard is going off with lights and bells and whistles, telling us all the warning things we need to know,”

“Ninety-one indictments,” Duncan said. “Fake Republican, $8tn worth of debt [from his time in the White House], everything we need to see to not choose him as our nominee, including the fact that he’s got the moral compass of a … more like an axe murderer than a president.

Describing “a two-plus-year crime spree from coast to coast”, Duncan said Trump’s roster of wrongdoing was “like some sort of Ponzi scheme of lies”.

"We need to do something right here, right now. This is either our pivot point or our last gasp as Republicans.”

Duncan was the lieutenant governor of Georgia when Trump tried to overturn his defeat there by Joe Biden in 2020, an effort now the subject of 13 racketeering and conspiracy charges.

What will MAGA say to this?
