They meant the kind of special master that wouldn't just take their word for it.

    another one bites the dust

A federal jury on Friday convicted a QAnon believer who chased down U.S. Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman on Jan. 6, 2021, finding the defendant guilty on all charges against him.

Doug Jensen, an Iowa man who was one of the first 10 rioters to enter the Capitol during the insurrection, went on trial this week and was found guilty on seven counts, including felony charges of civil disorder, and assaulting, resisting or impeding officers.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 16. Jensen’s wife, April, cried as the verdicts were read.

    don’t start crying now

Jensen has been in pretrial custody since last year. He had been released in a high-intensity pretrial program, but a judge ordered him detained again after he violated the conditions of his release by live-streaming an event hosted MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, who has promoted conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.

On Jan. 6, Jensen filmed videos from the base of the Capitol building, where he proclaimed — inaccurately, but with tremendous confidence — that he was at the White House. “Storm the White House! That’s what we do!” he said
    in one video.

The government and Jensen’s defense team made their closing arguments Friday, before the jury of 10 men and two women began deliberating in the afternoon.

Prosecutors argued that Jensen "was the rioter who would not back down" in his determination to the prevent the peaceful transfer of power.

“Every barrier he encountered that day, he was ready to topple,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Hava Arin Levenson Mirell said. He scaled a 20-foot wall to reach the Capitol, inhaled clouds of pepper spray “like it was oxygen,” and passed through police lines.

Goodman, the USCP officer who testified at Jensen's trial, had “no back-up” when he faced off with rioters, Mirell said. And the mob, “led by the defendant," didn’t withdraw despite being asked to by authorities.

“That was not a game of follow the leader,” Mirell said. Jensen was "weaponizing that mob.”

In his closing statement, Jensen’s attorney, Christopher Davis, painted his client as a "confused man" and "lone wolf" who had fallen for QAnon conspiracy theories. The pandemic “did very strange things to people” and “apparently, Mr. Jensen was one of them," he said.

Davis said it took his client roughly 24 hours to figure out that he was at the Capitol, not the White House, adding, that "shows you how confused and how jumbled his head is."

I love it when they try to play dumb in court…like they were just a helpless confused soul

enjoy your prison mystery meatloaf, and as always, don’t drop the soap

I'm getting a little creeped out by that too. I'm wondering if maybe @Commodore is subconsciously trying to erase his own guilt. @Commodore Is that why you don't like the FBI?

they need to start taking down the ring leaders

it’s fun to laugh at the mindless drone foot soldiers crying in court after getting sentenced to multiple years in prison, but I don’t think there has yet to be a single arrest for anyone who plotted and planned it but didn’t actually storm the Capitol

Jan 6th Committee says they have all this irrefutable evidence, so where are the arrests and indictments at? What’s taking so long?

Rep. Raskin on the committee confirmed that they have knowledge that a call took place but are not putting anything definitive about it. This is very salacious but the details haven't been confirmed and how this fits in with everythign that happened that day isn't clear. Riggleman is also out pushing a book that a few months ago he said he wasn't going to write about the Jan. 6 and the committee investigating it. Also up until recently he said he wasn't going to release it until the end of the year. This is a big claim but needs to be considered with more than a grain of salt.

The sad truth is that if the GOP wins the presidency, these folks will likely be pardoned, regardless if it's dip$hit or de$antis.

I actually don't think most of the those convicted on Jan. 6th will be pardoned. I don't think DeSantis will do so because of all his rhetoric I think he understands that they broke the law and were legiltimately tried and convicted. I think if Trump is reelected he won't have any need for them and get's nothing out of them anymore.

Pardoning these folks would be tantamount towards giving up on legitimate governance (rule of law? peaceful transfer of power?) and outright admission that they're in it to loot whatever's left until the Big One.

It'd be like the final Trump years where it was everything goes in Congress.

I don't care too much how long the J6 sentences are for. I think the most important thing is getting the conviction to very clearly show that what they did was wrong and illegal. They can't pretend, politically, they were justified that day.

I don't care much if their sentences are commuted. The finding of guilt still stands. Trump might do a pardon to try to re-legitimize the rioters and the effort to undermine the election. The rioters would probably even feel re-legitimized in their own minds since they recognize no authority except Trump's. But, even with a pardon, I think the majority of society will continue to see the riot and the rioters as illegitimate. Though maybe that's too optimistic of me.

DeSantis is a real wild card. He panders hard to his base. He will do the political calculus and make his decision. IMO he will see no downside and some upside for his base.

The odds are damn near 0, which is exactly the same number of times Trump has gone to the DC jail to thank his Patriots in person.
