and what a not-surprisingly moronic statement anyway. Very very few officer shootings end up w a cop in prison, and no cop shooting a trespasser ignoring orders and climbing crazed through a window to get at elected officials would end up in prison.

EDIT: But, by all means, let's have an investigation and a trial. Let's hear from legislators what was going through their minds and let's hear from the security official who made a deadly decision about his orders in protecting Congress from a loud mass of looting trespassers (to put it mildly). Let's hear from some of the rioters about their state of mind, their goals for that day, what they thought their POTUS wanted them to accomplish, and why any of them would think crawling through a window to get to legislators seemed like a good idea. And give me the popcorn. LOL.

Have been thinking about this, and I think a huge part of it is simply human nature.
We didn't expect shoe bombs until we saw some dude trying to ignite his shoes. We didn't expect airliners ramming buildings until we saw it, despite clear warnings of impending attack, with specifics. Humans looked at the initial evidence of Chernobyl and could not wrap their minds around the obvious conclusion about the reactor, because that just couldn't happen.

In this case, people didn't think a bunch of people spouting off online could actually ever attempt to interrupt the certification of a presidential election. It was kind of inconceivable to a lot of the so-called establishment. They need to spend more time with our nuttier friends here in the D&D.

Agree with her. We need to stop pretending these GOP politicians like McCarthy are acting in good faith.

The former president literally told McCarthy that the insurrectionists care more about the "fraudulent election" than him implying their anger and their motive for the insurrection is justified and now McCarthy is gaslighting pretending that Trump played no role in ginning up his base into beliving that the only option left is violence.

Now a new name has surfaced in the Babbitt imbroglio — Lt. Michael L. Byrd — and while USCP Communications Director Eva Malecki won’t confirm he is the shooter, in this case she isn’t denying it.

In a little-noticed exchange, Byrd was cited by the acting House sergeant at arms during a brief discussion of the officer who shot Babbitt at a Feb. 25 House hearing. Both C-SPAN and CNN removed his name from transcripts, but CQ Transcripts — which, according to its website, provides “the complete word from Capitol Hill; exactly as it was spoken” — recorded the Capitol official, Timothy Blodgett, referring to the cop as “Officer Byrd.” His name is clearly audible in the videotape of the hearing (see video embed further below).

Byrd appears to match the description of the shooter, who video footage shows is an African American dressed that day in a business suit. Jewelry, including a beaded bracelet and lapel pin, also match up with photos of Byrd.

In addition, Byrd’s resume lines up with what is known about the experience and position of the officer involved in the shooting — a veteran USCP officer who holds the rank of lieutenant and is the commander of the House Chamber Section of the Capitol Police.
