Damn near perfect analogy. The next two years will show whether or not one of those family members gets the city to slap a Contaminated notice on the house door, and forces a move to the suburbs.

That'll surely cost the Democrats political capital to pass something like HR1 that saves Democracy by passing an anticorruption bill that cannot be overturned without drastic measures like how the ACA was passed. It might cost the Democrats the House and Senate in 2022 if the Republicans get globs of corporate money to run against it, but it might be the right thing to do to save Democracy.

Honestly HR1 might not even go far enough. If the Democrats in Congress, and the Biden admin know they are going to get clobbered in the mid-terms anyways, go big with a clear overturn of the Citizens United decision by removing the filibuster first. Also setup and ratify in Congress a truly independent Justice Department that has an overturning of the DOJ rule about prosecuting a sitting president where a truly independent department has the ability to hold Presidents accountable not necessarily by arresting and prosecuting them in office, but by special measures to investigate, subpoena, and properly present evidence to the Congress for Impeachment considerations.

Otherwise, we are in dangerous territory with truly losing Democracy. Every action has an opposite and equal reaction, and I fear that when we see what the Right is planning to do when ramping up autocratic power after the next election cycle, the Left will have no other choice but to offer a reaction that will not be pretty, and will not be a "play by the rules" Democratic response.
