I concede that they do need to wring some value out of him because of his expensive contract. But long-term, increased wear and tear is going to lead to another detrimental injury that they cannot afford, and that Roy cannot afford, imo. So yes, he should either do risky surgery, or retire, but not go out there and play with no cartilage in his knees.
And the non-Blazers doctor who gave the second opinion is also atonishingly selfish and should be drawn and quartered?
I think both sides know that the best thing to do for now is ride it out...at least then you know what to expect for a while longer, maybe a couple seasons....if he has the surgery, best case scenario isnt 100% and there's a good chance he'll end up like Tmac. Too risky to got down that road right now, especially when their window is short, given their older core players. Maybe he'll do it after this year, as Miller and Camby come off the books...but he'll probably wait closer to the end of his contract, in hopes of coming back for another. He'll pretty much be in tmac's position, about 30-31 and needing surgery.
I remember reading an article about a year ago written by an orthopedist in which he said that he's seeing a lot of this "lack of meniscus" problem in athletes recently and it's due to the increase in arthroscopic knee surgeries designed to get the player back on the court/field as quickly as possible. Rather than properly repair the damage through more invasive surgery that requires a year or more of rehab, surgeons are removing pieces of meniscus with a scope and getting the player back to form after 4-6 months of rehab. Great for the team, bad for the player. Combine the removed meniscus tissue with standard pro-athlete wear and tear on the joint, and eventually some guys have little or no cartilage left in the knee. The author of the article mentioned CP3 as a prime candidate for this same sort of trouble a few years down the road, due to the manner in which his recent knee surgery was performed.
This shouldn't be about heart/loyalty anymore, if the guy is going to be hurting so bad out there no matter what he should stop pushing himself and retire. I love Roy but that just really really sucks.
SAD. It says he can't even have the microfracture. As they said it will never heal, he will have to play through it. I am afraid BRoy is gone. The ona Brandon making spectacular plays off the dribble.
Probably get a front office job after retirement, too. Their GM is Asian, by the way, so obviously Paul Allen wants to pander to them.
This tird got pretty up close and personal with it, he told me..... Spoiler Spoiler lol, look at bowen's face in the backround. classic, i don't think that look left his face the whole time he played.
Wow! I was just diagnosed with bone degeneration in my foot, also known as arthritis. I was told I can't ever run again for the fear that I may never walk again if I continue the pounding. Brandon Roy is allowed to keep playing NBA level basketball?!?!
it's not the same thing....arthritis just means swelling of a joint, which can be caused by different conditions
His game is going to decline, steadily. If the Blazers were bold, they would consider trading him, and starting over, again.
