Rubio is going to be a good player. Dont judge him on his perceived 'slowness' - he's not Brooks, but he is smart enough to know when to speed up and when to slow down. Just being a blur doesnt count for much (John Stockton attests).
Man Ricky Rubio is not gonna be a 10 ten point guard in the league in his whole freakin career! Even watching his highlights im not impressed, remember watching Rudy Fernadez highlights before he came over, people were still like well its spain but Rudy was unstoppable over there, watching ricky rubio highlights are just not moving in anyway, he doesnt appear to have the speed to even compete in the nba.
Jennings has not proven himself in Europe, if he played the way he played in Europe in the NCAA then he wouldn't even be a 1st rounder. There is nothing special about him, I rather have Rubio even though there is nothing special him also.
Ridicolous in my mind to say 'there is nothing special about Rubio'. Obviously some of you will disagree, but this kid will be a good player in this league. And if he sticks with it and works hard, a GREAT player. Time will reveal.
it's amusing when this "counter-example" is tossed around by people who likely didn't watch stockton during his physical prime. there was a time pre-mid 90's when he would blow past everyone on the court.
Jennings can't really shoot from the vids I saw. He's really fast, but what's that going to do if you can't shoot? AB over Jennings. I'd rather take Rubio over Jennings if we plan on getting a top pick.
If anything, this will be a little sidenote for the media to j*zz on if and when they go head to head for the first time.
i see a lot of steve nash in rubio, especially his passes on pick n rolls. i dont see why he can't be as effective as steve nash was in his mvp year.
im sure if we all saw steve nash play international ball where they allow handchecking, we'd all think nash was all hype too, but the NBA is different. you can't touch perimeter players which is why Nash has won 2 mvp's. i dont see why rubio cant emulate what nash has done. the skillset is there. he's actually taller than nash which makes it easier for him to pass.
Presumptious of you cabbage. Watched lots of Stockton from about 91 onwards. Later in his career, when he lost several steps, he was still an efficient and highly effective player. He was a guy who understood "tempo" - and that's what I'm saying about Rubio...Ricky has a read on the game and IQ that just comes naturally. Can't teach his smarts.
Hes rated the second best prospect by most experts and even Morey thinks he is giong to be special, so its not just the people on this board that are high on him. I think I'll side with Morey when it comes to evaluating talent. Especially overseas talent that most of us really havent seen. Must of been youre acid days becuase that never happened. He was quicker when he was young but he never blew past anyone. He was never considered even an above average athalete.
JENNINGS CLARIFIES RUBIO REMARKS: Brandon Jennings created a stir two weeks when he called Ricky Rubio overhyped. While Jennings remains confident (and you can italicize that word when it comes to Jennings) about his own abilities, he dialed it down a notch in New York City on Wednesday. "I'm not trying to be cocky; I'm confident. I'm a competitor. I like to compete," Jennings said. "A couple of GMs asked me why I said what I said about Rubio. ... So I explained to them: I'm just a competitor and I want to be the best. They are saying he's the best point guard in the draft and I want to go against the best. I'm not trying to put anyone down. Ricky is a cool guy, but on the basketball court, I want to be the best." When asked who was the best point guard in the draft, Jennings smiled. "The best point guard in the draft is whoever gets picked first," he said. "Of course I think it should be me. Of course I think I'm the best point guard in the draft. But Rubio is going to get it and I respect that." -- Richard Deitsch http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/basketball/nba/06/25/draft.day.blog/index.html#?eref=T1
B-b-b-but he plays in Europe so he's got so much upside and he is automatically awesome! I like the kid, ever since Lang Whitaker at SLAM started touting him but I gotta say the hype has been way too much.
Jennings is already a cocky player even though he has not play a single NBA game yet. He will probably end up to be another Stephon Marbury and Rubio ends up like J-KIdd. Players like that ends up getting traded to so many different teams.
Jennings dissing Rubio reminds me of when Stevenson was dissing Lebron about how overrated Lebron was. And the outcome was Lebron taking the whole entire wizard team out of the playoffs. Probably not the same results with Rubio but he will probably win the battle between him and Jennings. Plus Rubio would probably have a better career because he is more humble and not big headed. Haha Jennings is a joke. Big headed players like him don't make it far in the NBA unless he is Kobe or something.
Rubio to me seen to have great basketball iq which you can't teach, and his speed and strength can increase over time and he is still 18
