honestly this is what the NBA has needed since at least the early 1960s. I think the League is finally turning the corner
Ahh ok. Most players going to take those games off. I guess maybe it'll be good for some bench players to actually get some run or something idunno.
I did! This is going to be awesome! The nba is going the way of European leagues. Its smart, it drives sponsorships and ad revenue, as a fan you get competitive games early in the season, its in Vegas so players won't have to worry about travel plus you have the fan experience that comes with Vegas, its single elimination style so you get the drama of "win or go home" with every game and for a team like the rockets, to make some noise in this tournament would do wonders for the confidence of this team for the rest of the season. Its a win for everyone, well maybe not the owners that will have empty arenas for the full month of December but they can just book concerts or something
the nba era of load management and sitting games. college basketball does this with various in season tournaments that count towards the regular season but well see how this works for the nba
This would have been a much better experience, imo. Maybe you keep the dunk and three point comps but do them in between games or something.
So these are just regular games on a neutral court for some extra cash? People are going to turn off football for this?
For $500k, I'm pretty sure there will be players that give a ****. That's a lot of money. Drop in the bucket for some, but for role players and rookies, that's a lot of money.
Yeah but I would like to see a relegation and promotion system first. They could still draft players even when relegated.
People are missing the detail that the "group play" phase of the tournament - as I understand it, will not be any additional games, it will be normal regular season games designated as tournament-games . The tournament is....2 extra games if you make it to the finals. Edit - actually reading up again, sorry you play 1 extra game if you make it to the finals. Teams that don't advance will have to play 2 extra regular season games. I think it has a chance at working.
I am interested. I really do not start following NBA until about March timeframe a lot of times. I wouldn't mind watching mid-season tournaments and some kind of point system for standings to help with playoff seeding. I am open for change.
I love the idea of it. It means some games have greater significance Would prefer it to be in January though. That stage of the season where some teams have already given up hope - it gives them something else to play for.
