i like both tom cruise and brad pitt, so whatever. i still haven't seen the third one though i think it comes out on dvd soon.
Totally agree. Too many people are making too big a deal out of him, among other things, jumping on Oprahs couch. Essentially that's where it all started...the guy was in love; who the hell doesn't do crazy stuff like that when you'r in love. His beliefs are...strange...as have been some of the other things he's done. But in the context of celebrity weirdness, I don't think he' rank at the top. Angelina and Billy Bob's blood vials strikes me as weirder. And MI:III I think was as good or better than MI:I. Abrams saved the franchise after John Woo damn near killed it.
i think pitt would make a more believable badass secret agent than cruise. i mean i never bought tom cruise as an action heroe, maybe cause he is like 5 feet tall.
by the way he doesnt look that short on screen, do they get guys that are shorter or the same height to act in the films or do they just use some sort of camera tricks?
I like Brad Pitt and think he is an underrated actor but Tom Cruise is the face of the MI movies. If he isn't going to be in MI: 4 then they shouldn't make the movie.
I think they get short actors/actresses to play alongside him. If he resurrects his career I can see him in a movie with Reese Witherspoon and Natalie Portman.
Some of my personal opinions 1. No need to make ANOTHER MI movie. It's gotten pretty stale even after MI:3 (which was pretty good). It's not like he has an identity to recover (Bourne Series) or a thirst for gadgets and pretty ladies all the while being a studio's savior (Bond Series) 2. If they are making another one, they killed it from the get go without Tom Cruise. As crazy as he is, Cruise can open movies. Brad Pitt? While his acting skills are underrated, he can't open movies as well and as consistent as Cruise. And Brad Pitt as an action star? Something tells me there will be more gratuitous shots of his naked ass. 3. The Bourne series seriously kills the MI series. It's a tangent thought but I just wanted to throw that in here. 4. Instead of Pitt, I rather see Jason Statham (Transporter and Snatch fame) take over the franchise. He's more of a believeable secret agent than Brad Pitt is.
I like Tom Cruise. I quite enjoyed Mission: Impossible 3 (moreso than 2, probably not quite as much as the first one). But, part of the appeal of celebrities is their public personas, and when Tom Cruise comes out and tells all the housefraus who are his biggest fans that they need to just buck up, it's going to be bad for his career, at least in the short term. Of course, Tom Cruise was as much (if not more) let go because of the financial implications of his deal as for his recent behavior, regardless of what Sumner Redstone says publically. That said, Mission:Impossible is exactly the kind of movie that lends itself to replacing actors while keeping the franchise going, and I think Brad Pitt would be able to do quite well in the franchise. Of course, if they really do make Pitt the highest paid actor ever with the deal, there's no point in making the movie because it'll be a guaranteed money loser. I, too, would rather see someone like Statham or Colm Feore or somebody far less known to take over and have the movie be made for a price than see a big star vehicle for Brad Pitt.
Man am I the only one here who thinks Pitts acting sucks. Tom Cruise's acting definitely gets overshadowed by is pretty boy / wacko personal. He owns Pitt in this category and its not even close IMO.
first off, if u have doubts about Brad Pitt doing an action movie, 2 movies for you Fight Club and Mr. and Mrs. Smith He was awesome in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which I thought was VERY underrated because of the whole Brangelina fiasco. Best scene was when he was about to blow up Jane in the gear he was wearing and acting goofy. Fight Club, yea it was mostly a mindf-ck movie but the action scenes he did were better than Edward Norton. Tom Crusie is the face of the franchise, but the series is welcome for a change. Just home Schumacher doesn't get a hold of the franchise.
Well Fight Club did have plenty of action but it was along the lines of pure unadultrated beat downs and not of the "lets jump off of a motorcycle or hang 25 ft down from a ceiling" kind of action. More of a dark movie than an action movie. "if he can do one, he can do the other" you might say but I think it's hard for Pitt to pull off an INTELLIGENT action hero. No way he could have done a job that Cruise did in MI:1 and MI:3. And Mr. and Mrs. Smith, sure I'll give you that. But I'll respond with Troy. Ain't knocking Pitt because I think he's a good actor, but I think they can do better than just hiring the "next top hollywood actor" in line.
Brad Pitt's a great actor... check out Snatch. His role there I imagine is super hard to pull off for any actor.
i went into that movie really thinking i would like it and really wanting to like it, but it just did nothing for me. i think brad pitt is a good actor and like quite a few of his movies, i think vince vaughn is hilarious, and i think angelina jolie is the hottest person on the planet right now and certainly enjoy seeing a big screen version of her (especially if she's saying "who's your daddy now"), but it was just a blah movie to me. it had its moments and no one was really bad in it or anything, but it just didn't keep anything going. weird movie to judge for me. not that this has anything to do with this thread.
