Stupid move for that amount of money. For half that amount for a two year deal it would have been a marginally effective deal that would be nothing better than a desperation move. For this amount of money, it's more of a flat out stupid move. He brings nothing this team needs beside being tall and that is a bit misleading considering he's a 7 footer who plays like he is 6'8" Is CD the GM again?
Whoever came up with the per 36 min stats should be hung. There's a lot of reasons David Andersen didn't play 36 min/game.
Good point, RD. Hayes doesn't have anymore pressure at being C and Miller has his back. Adelman has so many options he can run. You know he is loving this....
best thing I can hope for is that he improves his 3pt shooting a lot and becomes our Channing Frye with better rebounding.
Why do you guys want Mbenga? Seems like a nice enougy guy, love his accent but he's never earned regular rotation minutes in his life, and he's 29 already. In his limited minutes, he blocks a lot of shots, gets an below-average amount of rebounds, fouls a ton, turns the ball over frequently and scores about as efficiently as Rafer Alston. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1pR4AoGFKKA&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1pR4AoGFKKA&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mbengdj01.html
We have needed a backup Center for years now and we continue to address the situation with some unknown backup(Anderson) or some old player(Mutombo). Deke got the job done when he was called in to play. I'll be glad when we bring in a dependable young backup Center somehow.
People around here have been spoiled by the production we have gotten on the cheap with Brooks, Lowry, Scola, Landry, Bud, etc. If we dumped these guys instead of paying them like the A's you would all still complain. They're getting paid their value, and so is Miller. I believe all three contracts have partially guaranteed last years, as mentioned Scola and Milelr get by on their craftiness not their athleticism, so age is not a big deal. Miller could easily be the starter if Yao goes down. This is part I of going all in, part II comes down at the trade deadline.
I think some of you think it's 2005 and Miller still plays for the Kings. He hasn't been that guy for a long, long time.
