I know this was Margulies' start, but even watching ER somewhat regularly through the '90s early '00s I couldn't remember her character over Alex Kingston, Michael Michele, Kellie Martin or that lesbian with the limp if you paid me. Florrick is becoming the most iconic professional female character of the current generation, but I can see how her inclusion might seem a little bland or heavy-handed.
His character sucks when they give him sentimental dialogue, which is occurring a lot more in the latter seasons; but it was a unique enough persona when it started. My mom shipped me off to some summer math camps back in high school and a lot of the kids and college age counselors had the exact same energy. Mad Men is such a great accomplishment all around, really difficult to depict male emotion without some element of violence or melodramatic romance and they did it consistently for five years.
Can you explain how or why Mad Men was a great accomplishment? Had to stop at season 6 because I just couldn't deal with the broken and random plot lines anymore.
90s Homer was hilarious, 2000s Homer is meh. Since this is a 2000s list, Larry David wins that matchup.
Everyone's favorite sociopath Larry David, no contest. He's the invariable direct, frank, forthright, candid, blunt, etc... guy we all wish we could be but we can't or the society would collapse.

The cold open with him having sex with the prostitute is one of the greatest openings to a show I have ever seen. Everything about it was gold, from the "look at meeee mom" to him finishing as the opening credits kicking in.
No doubt... one of the funniest characters I have seen. The dugout scene in season 1 is hilarious. "You clearly don't understand the whole employer/employee relationship." "Uh, I guess I'm starting to and I don't like it."
