OK, it was a BP plant, so please change the thread title as appropriate. It's a little farther away from my house, but there are reports of broken windows as many as seven miles away...
oh man, a coworker that knows the plant well said they're having a shutdown right now, which means there's a lot contractors working in the plant who aren't there normally.
Just called my friend's wife, he's working today but the location he works was about a mile away from the explosion. He's fine. I'd called there first and got no answer, but considering the situation I'd guess their phones are jammed.
Prayers for the workers and their families. There was an explosion at this very plant last year on March 30th and they were investigated because of it. They even kept operations running at other parts of the plant during the fire. Is it me, or does it seem like we have a refinary explosion or fire like every year?
I work at Shell Galena Park, if anyone knows his last name I can look him up in the Shell directory and shoot him an e-mail.
Terrible news. My heart goes out to the workers and their families. Wasn't it Texas City that had the massive explosion many, many years ago?
Texas City has had many plant explosions over the years.. but it sounds like you're refering to the Texas City Disaster. http://www.local1259iaff.org/disaster.html
How awful... Sometimes we forget the danger those people put themselves in every day at work. Thoughts & prayers...
Thanks for the concerns, everyone. I work at the Shell plant in Deer Park, but I have a close friend who works at that BP plant. We've gotten no news yet as to his safety. On my way into work now. It's always a concern to enter these places, and days like today make it tougher.
Your close friend, along with the rest of the victims, will be in our prayers tonight, Behad. Be safe, buddy.
on march 30th 2004 there was an explosion at this same plant. just a week away from the 1 year anniversery of that.
Not sure what's been reported since I'm at work, but a friend at the Dow plant says 4 dead, 10 critically injured, 1 missing, plus several other hurt. I work in a chemical plant, and I know my wife is going to freak out tonight.
