It's over 20 miles each way to the nearest HS in our area - add a 20+lb backpack and 3 high traffic narrow roads down a mountain without 6" of shoulder to walk on - not a feasible daily hike. And we have no public transportation. The Jr HS bus comes by at 5:45am for a 7:30am start time school. It is so messed up that I'd estimate that 90+% of parents drive their kids to school in SUVs while a nearly empty bus makes the early rounds in case someone does need a ride. Talk about wasting gas. I'm all for disciplining kids, but disobeying orders to come to the front of the bus (not a great offense that is endangering lives) is not worthy of those actions. The bus driver is completely to blame from what I saw on the tape of escalating this to where it ended up. By the way, my son just received his second Presidential Physical Fitness Award.
Are you blaming the school transportation system for over-weight kids? I hope they mount video camaras on all the school buses.
I only rode the bus for a year my whole life in high school, and I have a lot of respect for bus drivers just because the kids were annoying punks. Anyway, the driver shouldn't have blew up like that like some have said. I don't blame him, but he shouldn't have done it. Kids should be punished too.
Kids can be turds, but only parents have the right to lay a hand on a student unless they are being restrained to prevent injury to someone. In this case, the bus driver went after the kids...big mistake. I guarantee those kids will think twice about doing something like that again. As far as getting rid of school buses...please...
The bad kids on the bus always cause trouble, and now some of those kids practically rape the girls, so I have no sympathy for the bad kids. There have always been bad kids on the bus and they endanger everyone so I think the beat down is neccessary. If I were to guess this has been building up for a long time.
Then people who have children, or are considering them, would try to live as close as the school as possible. It would make people think more about having children. The school would be the center of their community and not the mall. Also we could pass it that people have to pay for their own kids education and not others who do not have any, and that would also help people think twice about adding to our population problems etc, by recieving the handouts. I'm liking this more and more.
For someone that teaches, you sure seem to hate children. Anytime you ever talk about kids, it seems like you are b****ing. We get it, you dont ever want kids. That doesnt mean that it isnt everyone's responsibilty to help educate them. If anyone shouldnt pay for kids, I think it should be retired people. Once you get to that age, you have helped for quite a while and you are then on a fixed income.
What about people who don't drive? Should they help pay taxes on highways? What about any kind of public transportation? Are you against that as well?
My kids dont take the bus so dont worry your pretty little wallet. There are plenty of things that we pay for that we never benefit from. Its called society.
Hey I didn't have a fire at my house this year. I don't think I should have to pay for the fire department either. Seriously dude, what do you want a line item bill of everything your tax dollars go towards with the option of not paying for the services you don't use or want? How would that work for sales taxes? As I see it you have two options: 1. vote against any tax increases that come across your ballot. 2. Run for office and try to have public schools disbaned.
I went to private school, and my parents paid city taxes even though I didn't go to a public school. It's part of living in this country.
Yeah, and stop making me pay for public universities that lose millions a year on athletic departments!
