I am not sure Armare would develop that quickly if he got pick by the Rockets. Remember he will be 4th on the depth chart to start the season behind Griffin, Taylor , and Thomas. He is probably in Boki's shoe if he got pick by Houston. So, Phoenix is a good situation for him since he gott the chance to play and develop.

During Hakeem's disgruntled years with the Rockets, wasn't there a trade with the Bulls that would've sent him over there for Kukoc and maybe Grant? Wow...that's a "what if?" I'm glad didn't happen.

If Amare was with the Rockets now..he would probably be playing all 48 minutes and Eddie would be trying out as a small foreward with MoT on injured reserve.

Pippen would have been part of the package. I remember Krause saying "I'll take Dream and Jordan and win the next 3 championships" or something like that.

Drexler and Jordan on the same team? Not sure how that would have worked.

Silly Krause. I could win next 10 championshiops with Dream and Jordan on the same team. We are talking about the 2 best players in the world at both ends of court on front and back court. Forget the offense. Could you imagine how hard it would be to score agaisnt them. Hakeem covering Jordan's back on defense?? *shivers*

I dont see a problem with Drexler and Jordan on same team. Either of these guys was very capable of playing the small forward position.

Nah, we shoulda picked Drexler at #3. And picked Dream the next year at #1. Then traded Sampson to Portland for their #2 and some good role players, and used the #2 to pick Jordan. Had we done that, we woulda broken Red Auerbach's record of consecutive championships from '85-'97.

    That's the ultimate shoulda, woulda.

    C Yao
    SF Griffin
    PF Amare
    SG Mobley
    PG Francis

this would've been a scary young team. would be a nightmare for every team to face. even the western conference teams would have trouble matching up with this group. would most likely be the toughest defensive team in the league. too bad. it didn't happen. something's just aren't meant to be i guess. ^_^ would've made an interesting rookie of the year race with both teammates vying for the same award.

If we had Drexler and McCray, we wouldn't need Jordan, but we would need a PF to replace Sampson, available at #5: Charles Barkley. Barkley, Olajuwon, and Drexler, not just when they are old and broken down, but throughout their careers. That is a dynasty my friends.

Or...we lose both coin tosses in '83 and '84 but still have visions of a Twin Tower combination:

Can you say Stipanovich and Bowie?!!

The deal with the rockets and jordan was this. Portland wanted a big man and really wanted the reigning rookie of the yr sampson. The Blazers offered their #2 and clyde drexler for ralph sampson. Since the Rockets really didn't want hakeem since they had Ralph, they just took him anyway. Can you picture Jordan,Hakeem and Clyde with the Rockets. The main reason why Portland didn't take Jordan was because they had Kiki Vandewea and Clyde at the 2and 3 spots.

That would have been nice real nice. If we had drafted Amare Stoudamire would we have kept Griffin? We would have had Griffin, Taylor, Thomas, and Stoudamire at PF. Someone would have had to be traded, maybe we could have traded Taylor and losing his contract might have alowed us to sign Rashard Lewis. That would be the best young team in the NBA history, but would it have worked, all that talent? Would there be enough to go around for everyone? Yao and Amare in one draft? That would have been one great draft.

Forget about all the IFs! Just be thankful with what we already have. Yao, Francis, and Mobley. 3 valid scoring options, 2 all-start starters. Rings for years to come! Can you imagine how many teams are envying Rockets right now? It's just insane to think about how conviniently for Francis to be sick last season to get Rockets #5 in the lottery, and how Francis luckily draw the #1 draft ping-pong ball.

Well, to take this to even further absurdity, what if we had traded Rodney McCrae (#3) and any player or future draft choices they wanted for Philadelphia's 2 draft choices at #5 and $10, and taken Barkley and Stockton.

And of course, traded Sampson to Portland for Drexler and #2, taking Jordan...

    That would have given us

    Dream
    Barkley
    Drexler
    Jordon
    Stockton

    a true Dream team

... oh well, woulda, coulda, shoulda ... but it does make you wonder at times like this, when we are getting some great talent, what we might look back and wish we had done. :)

SLA, your kidding right. The no name??? Rodney McCray was huge in college. They showed him going against Phi Slamma Jamma just a days ago on espn classic. We picked the best player available (based on college) instead of the hometown hero, ala not pick Lewis even though it was rumored we were high on him. We got Dickerson and Drew who we thought would contribute. We didn't need a 3 because that was the year we got Pippen. If we got both Drexler and Jordan and had the Dream, do you really think Jordan would still have become an icon. Dream might still have set the shot block record but his ppg would be drastically lower than Robinson, his comparison all through the 90's. Would could have had our big 3 back then but you have to remember, we had the twin towers. We went from number one pick to championship that year. We would have been great if there were no injuries.

To put it into today's perspective, we trade sf and eddie future #1 pick for Duncan. Screw the trade. Lets say Spurs had those guys and we had Ming and Duncan. Lets say Sonics do bad the rest of the season and get the #1 pick. Would we trade Ming or Duncan for Lebron James and the hometown hero Lewis. We would be in the champions. Now Ming has a career ending injury. Of course we would look back and say we should have gotten James (Jordan). You don't tinker with what could be great. The problem with striving for greatness is you might never get there. But in the NBA, never getting there is better than just being good .

Imagine if we landed the number 1 pick last season not this season, we would have Kwame "project" Brown in our roster.

Imagine if we didn't get number 1 this season, Cato would still be our starting center.

Imagine if Chinese government didn't allow Yao to come, we would draft Mike Dunleavy.

Imagine if we followed some insane advice, we would trade Francis for a crappy big man and have Jay Williams as our stating point guard.

I know our current team is still not prefect but let's just be thankful to have them. :)
