I can see it now.... A dude wearing a Huff Orioles jersey, boxers, and Ray Charles glasses, holding a jar of Vaseline, sitting front row behind the Orioles dugout on opening day at Camden Yards next season.....
Quoted for truth. Hating on Everett for offense is one thing, but saying Zobrist was "the answer" and attempting to write off Everett's obvious defensive superiority is just inane.
that's not what i'm saying at all, i'm saying that the astros lend out loyalty to average or even below average players like they have the luxury of letting players stay in the lineup with no production as for "the fielding bible" impressive but useless, they should do plus minus more like a hockey player, i admit everette is above average at short, and yes between 2003-2005 better than that, we are going into 2008 now, the astros have had a lot of problems and his stick is only one of them,
plus minus for a baseball player.... wins/losses not good enough? He's one of the best defensive shortstops CURRENTLY and would've still been that last year if Carlos Lee didn't slide into his heel. Did you see his range and how far out there he was when he got slid into? His range and his throwing arm is one of the best in baseball, period. The Astros does have a lot of holes to fill, but their "top SS prospect..." would not have filled one of them. Their holes are mainly at SP and a closer. Another hole is in second base and potentially some depth. They need to rebuild their farm, yet compete while you have a pitcher like Oswalt heading your lineup. Pitchers like Roy Oswalt don't come very often. Add him to hometown talent Berkman and another star like Lee with good potential players..., you just can't try to rebuild through their best years unless you're talking about trading all of them for future potential. Our payroll is much higher than that of, let's say, the Milwaukee Brewers. We don't need to be totally dependent on aligning our talents for one major push and hope we don't screw up. The Astros just needs to stay competitive enough to make a few deadline trades and go after it. Though, by doing so, they probably actually need to fill some holes before the season begins. With that, it's still not Adam Everett that's our major problem, especially if Towe could prove that he could hit.
and a catcher and a second base and a third base and a right fielder (no wait they filled that one ) I agree that SS is not a must fill position.
