Well Jones pretty much looked like ass after the 2nd round. Damn I wish Calzaghe would've had the stones to fight Pavlik instead of Roy.

I'm absolutely amazed at how some of us "hate" Calzaghe. It can't be because he's an ass -- that title would have to go to Hopkins after his racially-tinged tirade against Calzaghe last year. He could have easily retired after that and been one of 4 fighters to ever be undefeated after that number of times in the ring. Instead he took the Roy Jones fight. And to some of us he can't win either way: If he lost to Roy we wouldve said "told ya so". By winning we'll say he fought a washed up fighter. Either way some of us have some real social issues if we can't be intellectually open enough to give the man some respect. As a huge boxing fan Roy Jones has been my favorite fighter for years. That being said, props to Calzaghe. Much respect.

I think any fighter from the UK will have question marks just because so many of their fighters in the past have had padded out records against pub fighters, then been slaughtered when put up against good opposition.

I think Calzaghe had that reputation for a good 8 years before he really started to take on the best of the best, and to his credit, he has beaten everyone that's around, but still, its hard to turn around 8 years of question marks.

I also think for a fighter with his record, most boxing fans no matter where they are, like to see the fighter have a lights out KO punch. I don't think Calzaghe has that ability, like Roy Jones used to have.

As for Jones, I thought his career was over years ago, and it would have been the easiest thing in the world for him to have hung up the gloves and kept his record nicely in tact.

However, he has gone out of his way to fight the best fighters out there, even at his age and well past his prime, and you have to give him credit for that. While most fighters are dodging opponents Jones is taking on anyone he can.

Its a shame he isn't five years younger. I think in his prime he would have knocked out many of the fighters that are now beating him, including Calzaghe.

I thought Jones Jr. showed some major heart out there - certainly more than he has before. His first round knockdown of Calzaghe got some hearts pumping, but Jones is just too far from his prime to hang with someone still in their prime. Yes, I know Calzaghe is 35, but their ages in the ring are more like 10 years apart. Entertaining fight overall though -- I wish Jones would have had a bit more in the tank, but it just wasn't there anymore.

I wonder if Calzaghe will really retire after Hopkins' back from the dead performance in his last fight -- they could make that rematch a super fight again.

I didn't watch the fight, but saw pictures of it. It looked ugly....Jones looked like he walked right out of those Hellraiser movies. You could see where the cut was exposed, and I could see his red muscles twitiching and a partial yellow outlayer. He got beat pretty good.

I don't think anyone wants to pay money to see hopkins fight. He threw a lot more punches against pavlik then usual, but despite that he is just so boring to watch.

I am surprised it was only a split decision for Calzahe last time. Hopkins was feigning those low blows to rest and one time he didn't even know where his corner was. I thought he got beat up.

His performance against Pavlik could from a marketing standpoint get people excited again, but like Jones he is way past his prime. His dominance of Pavlik though opens up some doors again for another big fight that would draw interest.

I totally agree with you though that Hopkins fights are generally not very interesting. If Jones would have won last night there would have been a super fight beyond imagination (well the media hype) between Hopkins and Jones.
