How about Berto vs Marquez and the winner gets Pacman? If the Mayweather fight can't get done, again.
I promise I won't be paying 60 bucks to watch manny and shane. Honestly, manny hasn't had a truly exciting fight since JMM. Cotto was a descent fight, the Margarito fight was boring. Manny is on the decline anyway and he is certainly ducking berto.
It just doesn't make sense to me that Manny is "ducking" Berto. Of the three named non-PBF opponents, Berto brings the least $$$ to the table. Mosely is a more lucrative and probably an easier fight. That's not ducking IMO that's a good business decision. Berto isn't going anywhere. He can always fight him next if need be. Honestly Berto brings as much to the table as Tim Bradley, which is to say not much from a fan base standpoint. I think JMM should fight Amir Khan in England. He can make a fortune, and maybe if he beats up Manny's friend, Manny will pull a Rocky and try to avenge "Apollo" Khan's defeat. Berto should fight the Bradley/Alexander winner or maybe Paul Williams, though that's probably not a high $$$ fight for the risk.
Mosley doesn't bring anything to the table, trust me. People may not know who berto is, but when they buy the fight they'd be buying pac. I just don't see how the public is really going to buy a mosley pac fight after mosley's been beaten time and again. This fight will be pac's lowest ppv, by far. I guarantee it.
The Clottey bout only generated around 700,000 buys, as Clottey was relatively unknown. Do you honestly think Mosley will be even lower?
You made my point for me. I totally forgot about that until now. If it were all about name recognition why did Clottey get a fight? To answer your question, the shane fight will come in at about that number.
The casual boxing fan has not heard of Berto. If the undercard is halfway decent it will do 1 million buys. The Cinco De Mayo weekend fights always sell. Yes I know neither is hispanic, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Chavez Jr. in a step up fight on the undercard to bring the Hispanic $$$ (I've heard Mayorga's name mentioned). Also, if Kelly Pavlik is out of rehab, that could be his comeback night.
Berto would do the same number of buys as Shane. Shane never drew in his prime. You could market Berto to the general public. Don't forget Berto loves to run his mouth. He's capable of getting a lot of people angry. Think of what BHop did against Trinidad. Only hardcore fight fans knew who Hopkins was and by the time of the fight people hated him. Same how Floyd had to switch it up to get PPV buys. The Cinco De Mayo card would do over 1 million if they had Manny vs. me as the main event. I'm sure the entire undercard will be Hispanic fighters. I doubt you will see Chavez Jr. since Arum uses him to carry seperate Latin Fury PPVs. From what I've been told you won't see Pavlik for at least a year but who really knows. It was a really bad situation though
Doesn't make sense for JMM to go to 147 unless it's against Manny. The suggestion of JMM vs.Khan was good though. I'd pay $60 for that and possibly even go to it
What do you think about JMM vs Erik Morales, which seems to be the most likely fight for Marquez next? I know most people don't like it but I love it because of the history involved. Marquez should win but I'm not counting out Morales one bit. But I much rather seen him face better opposition. Coming off the Floyd lost, where he looked just as bad, if not worst than Shane, he fought Juan Diaz (already KO) and Katsidis (diaz beat). It won't look too good to others if he takes on Morales next. That is why i suggested Berto, who needs better fights himself.
I love that fight. Terible is one of my all time favorite fighters and he'll come to fight for that one. It could easily be as good as JMM/Katsidis was (which is a FOTY candidate). Like you said, there is a lot of history there, so I think we'll get everything Morales has left in that fight. He's had problems securing fights. He's not a 147 pound fighter. He only went up for the Floyd fight to get a career payday. JMM really belongs at 35 but there's fights at 40. Khan would be a good one. So would the winner of Bradley/Alexander. I think Berto's too big and I don't think it's a fight JMM's camp would pursue without at least a 1 million guarantee and I don't think the money is there
One thing i've learned was to stop hoping for a Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight. If it happens, great. If not, no problem. Boxing will move on like it always has. I think the hype surrounding that big fight is taking away from all the other great fights in boxing. If you just look at November and December alone, we had continuous, meaningful fights all throughout those two months. This seems to be the first week in two months without any significant fights on American TV. I can't even remember the last time Boxing ended the year on a roll like this.
Most hardcore fans I know are done with those two. Like you said, if it happens, great, if not, who cares? Let Floyd go to jail and Manny collect paychecks fighting washed up fighters coming off losses at catch weights. I'm not interested in any of that. Next year will have a good start as well with Bradley/Alexander. Donaire/Montiel, Glen Johnson/Froch, Mares/Agbeko, Vic/Perez, Dawson/Pascal, and even Cotto/Mayorga (for as long as it lasts) should be action fights. We also likely will see Juanma/Gamboa.
Wow. You used an image from Floyd kicking Shane's ass to ride Manny's nuts. That's not very intelligent man. *Jordan shrug* Huggers gonna hug I guess. Big time fail
