Look no farther then Hagler/Hearns. That fight only lasted 3 rounds, but it was three of the best rounds you will ever witness in boxing. I'm honestly sick of these Arum in house fights to be honest. Floyd wants to be an idiot and go to jail then so be it. I don't care anymore. That said, I'm not letting manny off the hook. He fought Hatton (after he was ko'd by Floyd), Cotto (after getting beat up by Margarito), Margarito after getting beat by Shane ,Clottey (yawn), and now Shane (after he got beat by Floyd and looked worse then he ever has against Mora). As a boxing fan I'm disgusted. Give me PWill, JMM, Berto, the winner of bradley and Devon at a catch weight Manny loves so much.
You've got to be kidding. Manny ducked a third fight with JMM to go up to 135 to fight Diaz. Most people feel Marquez won both of those fights to be honest. Survey respected boxing press. No matter what you feel they were extremely close fights (one draw and 1 narrow win for Manny). It's as ridiculous to ask Manny to go to 154 for Martinez (which I agree) then it is for manny to say he's accomplishing history while making his opponents fight at catch weights. The rest of your post is too ignorant to comment on to be honest
Instead of those guys, excluding Shane, who should Manny should have faced? Aside from Margarito, those were some of the top available fights at the time. You can't knock him for taking on Cotto or Hatton, especially when there were folks that were saying they would bully him. People didn't take Manny serious until after the Cotto beat down.
JMM, Berto, Williams. Hell, even Angulo. Top Fights? Clottey, not at all. Hatton? Coming off a ko loss to Floyd. Cotto had been wrecked my Margs (although I'm ok with that fight and give him credit for it). Marga? A joke. I'd rather have manny sit down like Floyd is honestly. They are both disgracing the sport. Go read Freddy and Arums quotes after Floyd beat Shane. This is pathetic. At least I used to be able to say Manny stayed active and was fighting live bodies. Now, he's a huge joke.
Bingo. That and that he won't defend the divisions he's won in. What's the point of winning Jr. Middle when you won't take another fight in it?
Manny avoiding Marquez has nothing to do with Manny. It has to do with Top Rank/Golden Boy Feud. I've covered 50 major title fights. You can disagree with my opinion, but please slow down about my "ignorant post". Scoreboard is scoreboard. Manny beat him. He doesn't need to beat him a 2nd time to secure his legacy. Would Marquez be a better fight than Mosely? Of course it would. But there's only one fight Manny needs to fight and that's Mayweather.
Yep you are absolutely right, a joke... I didn't know King1 was 8 time champ, making millions and president of his own country... At first I thought you were just some bitter internet geek who can't seemed to say anything nice to anybody these days, boy was i wrong, LOL....
Wrong again. GBP agreed to let Arum promote the fight. The biggest problem is people like you who have an on air voice aren't calling manny on his bull****. Everyone calls Floyd on his (and rightfully so at this point) but they let manny slide on this. Sorry, but not me. Scoreboard is scoreboard? Does Chavez have scoreboard over Pernell Whitaker? You can't make a blanket statement like that. Also, I never said Manny needed any fight to secure his legacy. His place in history was already stamped after, MAB x2, Morales x3, JMM x2. This catch weight garbage is just that. Those aren't real titles. Winning a belt from Margarito (who was stopped and then came back to look like garbage against a bum) at a catch weight is ridiculous. It was ridiculous when Winky Wright was doing it (we were referring to it as Winky weight it was so lame) and it's the same for Manny. manny doesn't even need the Floyd fight at this point. It would be the biggest grossing fight in history but those two have pissed so many people off that they are indifferent. I said the rest of your post was ignorant because it was. Bringing up Andre Ward and the Klits was incredibly lame and pointless. I also, think martinez is too big but he's made 54. That guys point was much more realistic then you made it out to be.
Your argument has no substance so you had to resort to this? Only joke was your post. Say something nice? Are you serious? You want me to bring you a glass of milk and read you a story before you go to sleep also? I'm far from a bitter internet geek as you suggested. I'm surpised you can breathe with manny engulfed in your throat. In your eyes your hero can do nothing wrong.
When I said who should he have fought, I wasn't talking about the Mosley fight. Who should he have fought besides Hatton, Cotto or Clottey? And I have to disagree. I rather see Manny fight just to stay active than to fight twice in four years or whatever. I don't like this Mosley fight either but I'll still watch because I like watching any boxing. I don't get people sometimes. One thing I find funny is that Manny supposedly needs steroids to fight these old and slow, shot and weight drained fighters. These guys he fought were all bums, but at the same time, he needs steroids to beat them? Because there is no way he could dominate those over rated (Hatton, Clottey), shot (Oscar,Cotto,Margarito), and weight drained (everyone Pac fought in a catchweight) tailor made fighters, right? That's impossible!
Instead of Mosley, I would have went with Berto. It's kind of funny because people criticize berto's opposition and say he needs to step up. So now he's willing to and people say "nah". It would have cost less then the Shane fight and the difference in attendance and ppv buys would be nothing. Shane has never been a draw. He couldn't get draw 5k in his own backyard after beating Oscar. I love boxing. It's by far my favorite sport. i'd rather not watch manny fight then this garbage. These guys getting 10 million for ppv sparring matches only encourages future guys coming up not to fight each other. As to your last point, I'm going ot leave the steroid argument out of it because this thread will explode into a 10 page pissing match and I think there's more merit in here then that. Clottey was what he always was. A defensive fighter who was a good stylistic match for Manny. That win would have a lot more merit if he didn't follow it up with this string of garbage. hatton was shot. he was coming off a ko loss to Floyd and his life style had caught up with him. I give him credit for the Cotto win. I actually consider the Cotto win his best since Morales 2. Oscar was dead in the ring. You could see that. He had not made that weight in like 10 years and was a part time fighter at that point. I think we all knew the Margs fight was a joke. Like I mentioned earlier, I would have put Manny in the HOF after MAB x2, Morales x3, and JMM x2. i also recognize that he's a top 50 p4p fighter of all time. i have no problem giving him credit. If he had fought Berto (and I think he would ko Berto for the record) I would give him all the credit in the world for it.
It's very tough to argue that Berto deserves the fight. He has fought one guy you could maybe call a gate keeper in Quintana and looked outstanding. He fought 1 legit top 10 welter in Collazo and barely hung on in a slug fest. Berto should be fighting Mosely for the right to get the big fight. Neither Mosely nor Berto are Manny worthy opponents. Top Rank wants Mosely because he is a free agent and cheaper ie more desperate than Berto. That's why Berto and Marquez are not getting the fight. Manny is the draw in every conceivable fight with the exception of PBF so he has the right to pick and choose who he wants. To your point about PBF being criticized as a ducker. I have always been of the opinion that Manny and Floyd should not be taken to task for who they fight when you consider where they started weight class wise. Floyd was probably the greatest lightweight I have ever seen, even more so than Manny. He destroyed an in his prime Chico Corrales and I think he would beat Manny in any weight class, but I would like to see the fight. I really don't care to see Manny or Floyd fight anyone else besides each other.
I don't think Berto deserves the fight. Honestly, there aren't really many deserving fighters out there at the moment. My problem is that people keep asking a lot of these young guys to step and up when they want to they are turned away. Unfortunately, Berto is already being paid like a headline fighter and he has HBO pull because of Al Haymon. They could have hyped that fight much more then the Mosley one. marquez could have been an in house promotion for Arum. GBP was willing to step aside on that because they were still going to get a percentage of JMM. I don't think Arum or Manny are comfortable with that fight. Marquez is still a very sharp puncher, and outside of his first loss to Morales, nobody has ever given pac trouble like that. I think that sitsi n the back of his mind. Plus, manny has a huge ego so calling him out publicly like Marquez has done didn't help him. Mosley as an opponent was the worst kept secret in the world. Shane lives in Houston now and he's been mentioning this for a while. No question that Manny is the draw and he has earned the right to fight whomever he wants. It's just that he says "I fight for the people", "Nobody wants to see another Marquez fight", "It's up to Bob who I fight" ect, ect....I just shake my head. Just say you're fighting for money, this is a business decision and let that be that. Floyd is amazing and I agree he beats manny when they eventually fight. The Corrales fight was a white wash and Castillo is a hugely underrated fighter. He did his best work then. Just like Manny at his lower weights. It kind of pisses me off he didn't challenge himself more as he moved up. there's nobody who was beating Floyd but he's taken the safe route in a few instances. that's also why Pac has let me down so much. He went through a murderers row and then got complacent. Outside of Cotto, every fight has been pretty much a non competitive money grab. I'll ask you this, who is the best fighter in this era? I'm beginning to wonder if it may be Hopkins. Look at his resume. It's amazing.
Depends on how long you want the era to be. On pure boxing ability, I think Floyd and Ricardo Lopez would be near the top of my list. Hopkins is the rare fighter that has never been in a "war". So many of his fights were tactical in nature that he has almost never been hit with many clean shots in succession. Hopkins has made many a champion look rather pedestrian, but his fights are often so boring from an action standpoint that just for my personal taste I'd have a tough time putting him at the top.
Love Finito, but I don't think the competion was really there for him to be honest. He's better then Carbajal but they are pretty close to me. That was always my opinion, but I started l,ooking back on it after the Pascal fight. He broke down and destroyed a bunch of guys. Tito and Pavlik were at the top of their games at the time. Nobody ever made Winky look like that. Pascal was coming off a win against Dawson and it was in his own backyard. His body of work is really impressive. Can't blame anyone for feeling like you do though. He's made a number of fights unwatchable. Carrying Roy jones for no reason was terrible
