Seems like this fight has a low upside for Paq -- if he loses he will never get a fight with Mayweather. If he dominates as expected it will be just another over matched opponent. Seems like there are some more interesting fighters out there for him to challenge. I guess it will give us a good measuring stick to a future Paq/Mayweather fight since Floyd just fought (dominated) him.
It won't really measure anything. Floyd and Pac are two completely different types of fighters. Pac overwhelms you with his high workrate, his punches are quick and straight. He doesn't really have a whole lot of strategy, he basically just outworks you. Floyd is of course a pure boxer and will counterpunch your ass all night and make you look like you have no idea what you're doing out there. Mayweather school Mosley and gave him a boxing lesson. Pac is going to just beat him up with 6-7 punch combos. If Mosley could counter-punch and develop a jab then he could stand a chance. But it won't happen at 39, he won't bring anything new to the table. Atleast not enough to be able to compete legitimately against Pac. This is just another bull**** fight that Arum threw together to milk his cash cow. Arum keeps giving Pac stationary old opponents who haven't done **** to earn a fight and a big payday with Manny. Mosley has the same chance of beating Pac as he had of beating Floyd. If he lands a hard ass punch and get hurt him then MAYBE.. otherwise it will be the ass-whoopin of the year. Unless Pac and Floyd meet later next year, in which case Pac will be on the receiving end of that one.
Only way I watch this fight is if the undercard is spectacular. If they get another rocky Juarez fight, I'm skipping it.
Why not fight Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KO)? He's coming off 2 KO victories, and is the WBC welterweight king...
It may be because the extra drawing power of Mosley is expected to result in more extra revenue than the difference between the $5 mil and whatever Marquez is asking for.
there's nothing worthy to fight pacman in the lower divisions since he's been dismantling big men already. at this point it's more like showbusiness. people want big names. there's nothing for Manny to prove in boxing so it's all about making money. Letting him fight against newcomers like Berto is not gonna prove anything. So it's right not to waste Manny's time and put his own body to risk by letting him fight unknown boxers.
So you're saying let Manny fight strictly for money? Put him in there with NAMES and not legit competition? Rather than improving his legacy, let him and his promotional team laugh at real boxing fans who know he could be in there against better opposition. Instead, subject us to watching Pacquiao beat up old, past prime, "names" who will do absolutely NOTHING for him, other than make him some money? So you now recognize that he is fighting bull**** fighters now? That out of his last 6 fights, the best competition was a broken Miguel Cotto? The rest were simply to capitalize on his popularity and make him and Arum an extra buck. So Clottey is a bigger name than Berto?
I'd rather see him fight Berto (a younger guy for once) or Marquez (to prove he's beyond the level he was at a few years ago). Mosley seems more of the same. Another well-known bigger/older fighter that he can beat down. I mean, by this time, we know Manny can do that already. A change would be nice.
if all these fights are for "real" boxing fans, these boxers will be eating peanuts. manny has proven that he can fight and beat great boxers. as what you said, it's time to milk the cow.
So what? Perfect punch ko'd him. At least he would come to fight. Also, Martinez deserves to be #1 p4p right now while Floyd is on vacation and Manny is fighting anyone who will go for a catch weight and is coming off a loss. I'd put JMM and Hopkins over both of them right now. Floyd and manny are embarrassing the sport
Williams is still sleeping: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/w3leRDXrbrs?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/w3leRDXrbrs?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Maybe so, but even asleep he'd still be a better opponent then Clottey, Margarito or a shot Shane who couldn't even beat Mora
Touché -- Williams/Pacquiao would definitely have more entertainment value than Shane/Manny. Paul's almost overly aggressive and always pushes the envelope, which explains why he got dropped by Martinez. Dude never backs down from a battle, and the punch count in that bout would be absurd.
Ducking? You think Pac is scared of them? Berto has beaten NOBODY, Manny already beat Marquez, and it is ridiculous to ask Manny to go up to 154 to fight Martinez. Why stop there, why not ask him to move to 168 and fight Andre Ward? Maybe he can fight both Klitchkos in the same night. There's only one fight that matters left on Manny's dance card. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. Everything else is essentially like the late 80's paying $50 to watch Tyson clobber someone.
