great fight. Probably should have gone to Pacquiano but not an unconscionable decision by boxing standards; the late rounds could have been scored all 5-0 each way. The upside is we will now get to see a rematch.
I think because boxing is just so much more raw and visceral than any other sport it causes a more emotional response. There's no helmets, teammates, coaches, or anything like that, it's one man versus another in the purest form. I'm not a huge fan of the sport, but the appeal of it sometimes manages to just cut through all the shadiness and bogus stuff that surrounds it. Some of the most compelling moments I have had watching sports on TV in the last few years have come watching boxing, usually in fights that I ostensibly don't care much about, like Morales Barrera and all 3 Gatti Ward matches.
Saw the fight myself, that was complete BS. Pacquiao was ROBBED, wondered why Marquez wouldnt agree to a rematch.
I saw the fight, and Pacquiao was robbed. I feel so bad for him, the hopes of an entire country rested on his shoulders. Another thing is, one judge, Burt Clements, scored the first round 10-7 instead of 10-6. I just screwed up!" says Clements... Judge Burt Clements, who controversially scored Manny Pacquiao's three knockdown round 10-7 instead of 10-6, told the Las Vegas Review Journal after the fight that his scoring of the round was an error. "Clearly, it wasn't non-awareness that there were three knockdowns," said Clements. "I just screwed up. I feel badly because I dropped the ball, plainly and simply. You can make a lot of arguments that it was a very close fight, but that's immaterial. The fact is, I dropped the ball." Clements stated he was under the impression the Nevada Commission did not like 10-6 rounds. Had he scored the round 10-6, Manny Pacquiao would today be the WBA/IBF featherweight champion. LINK Manny Pacquiao should be the IBF and WBA featherweight champion of the world. A 71 year old judge decided the outcome of a 24 year old fighter. Another black eye for boxing.
PacMan should've knocked him out, you don't win the belts on a decision. That's the way it's always been and usually the way it will always be.
not if there's no three knock down rule. Give Marquez credit he withstood the first round onslaught and pretty much stymied his opponent for the rest of the fight. Pacman didn't really impress me that much aside from the first, he looked like a one punch fighter who was apt to get caught with a big shot all night long, it's just that Marquez never could provide the power to do it. His bouncy (flashy) style does not lend itself to defense and a good straight right slipped in as he is bouncing down and towards the opponent can hurt him real bad... I kept waiting for Marquez to catch him but he never did. Pac is an exciting fighter much like Prince Naseem Hahmed but you put him in there with someone who can fight off his left hand and has decent power and I think he can be beat, Marquez just didn't have the power to get it done.
i think a possible rematch between pacquiao and marquez will be at either New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, or New Jersey. Las Vegas is a good place for boxing but there is too much controversy in there.
I know that he was recognized by Ring as the best featherweight, but that's not a title that changes hands in the ring. The fight was for the WBA and IBF titles, both held by Marquez.
The fight was awesome. Probably fight of the year. Those two guys gave everything for 12 rounds and I'm ready for a rematch. I thought the fight should have gone to Pac but it was a very close fight. I thought he came back strong in the final 4 rounds and did enough to win it. Have to credit Marquez for a good fight. I came away thinking that Marquez is a much more complete fighter and that Pac is simply a dominant physical force. (Taking nothing away from Pac) Kinda like prime Shaq & Duncan/Olajuwan. Each gets the job done in their own way. Really looking forward to Jones/Tarver II this weekend. And would love to see Pacman/Morales--I think Morales would try to trade with Pac and would get KO'd--mabe we'll get to find out later this year. Gotta watch the replay. great stuff. steve
Erik Morales was having problems with Jesus Chavez in the first round until Chavez tore up his right shoulder and fought left-handed the rest of the fight. He couldn't beat Pacquiao, but probably could beat Marquez.
i thought the fight was awesome. i thought marquez dominated the rest of the fight with the exception of a couple rounds....i was not disappointed in a draw...just means a rematch.
The news in Mexico is that Marquez doesn't feel that a rematch is in order because he feels he defeated Pacquiao. RIGHT, sounds like someone is afraid of another beating.
I think pac should fight chi first besides dinamita doesnt want any rematch then they can fight for the unified belt.
