You're braver than I by wanting to gamble on a bowl game. This game isn't so bad because it's earlier in the bowl season, but often times the bowl games are so long after the regular season ends that the team that comes out and plays in the bowl game is completely different from the team that you saw during the regular season.
Historically I kill during bowl season. It used to be easy to pick the winner, conference disparity was way more apparent. Nowadays its kind of a cluster.
First good bowl game of the postseason. Louisville pulls out a 31-28 win in what turned out to be a back and forth game. USM jumped out early, UL pulled it even at the half, and defense ruled the day in the second half.
Man, that game stunk. Illinois completely took the Baylor crowd out of it by going up 24-0. RB3 didn't play his best game but the real problem was in the trenches. Both Illinois's offensive and defensive line were controlling the line of scrimmage. Bummer of a way to end the season with 4 blowout losses especially when it seemed so promising.
What's this "Baylor crowd" you speak of? I wasn't aware of the existence of such a thing. In other news, Baylor is still Baylor.
Baylor side was absolutely packed...green and gold from top to bottom. Kinda like when we got through to the Elite 8 last season in hoops.
I doubt there were 68K...but I can tell you Baylor's side was absolutely full. Seriously, from top to bottom. Every suite...every seat in the upper deck...everything was full. I'd say the other side was 3/4 full.
Well, that's good for Baylor. I was pulling for Baylor. I was invited to go to the game yesterday, but I opted for some random middle of the season basketball game.
Thanks for your cheers, anyway. Honestly, it had been such a bowl drought for Baylor that having it so close to Waco meant that folks would show up in droves. By the way...weather didn't help. I knew people who planned on flying in yesterday but couldn't make it because flights were delayed into Houston for so long due to storms. My guess is there were people who might have planned to drive down but didn't, as well.
My seats on Illinois side were mostly people who bought tickets before teams were announced. I was surprised at the turnout for the Illini. Good win for the Big 10.
lots of blue and orange...lots more than I expected. I was standing on the MetroRail next to a guy from Chicago decked out in Illinois gear. He kept raving about how much he liked Houston. There were at least 3 other groups in the rail cars I could see who were there supporting Illinois.
