Both sides are getting disgraceful

Well, I can definitely say I've felt disrespected by you right here in this forum which is certainly a social situation. So there's that.

 

You just **** on every member of all five branches of the military.

Historically, the saying is, "Respect the office, if not the man." Everybody, I think, probably is guilty of violating that a little bit from time to time, but I think rejecting it outright is part of the decline in American political discourse. 50 years ago, you wouldn't find anybody who would share your view, but you certainly aren't the only one who feels that way in this environment.

IMO, it's part of the same flawed philosophy that gives everybody a trophy and tells everybody that their opinions are valid. So really, I get why you say what you say,but IMO it is part of the disease of runaway self-confidence that has infected our society. Everybody thinks they are a chief, nobody wants to be a brave.

 

Just my 2 cents but I personally think that Obama has been a fairly terrible president but he still IS the president so at a bare minimum you show respect to the office of the president by showing him respect.

Think he's a disgrace to the office if you deem fit, but if you don't show respect based on the office he holds alone then you are disrespecting yourself.

People that say you don't respect a man for their job are lying. If Hakeem, Yao or Harden came up to you wouldn't you show them more respect than a normal person?

 

I obey him because its the law and necessary for maintaining peace not because i respect him as a person. Again what has he done to earn my respect? gone through police training? Cop is just a dude getting paid, no different then any other legal profession.

I've never been fired or laid off from a job. DO good work and follow instructions, doesn't mean you need to respect your boss as a person.

I have respect for free speech. People have come to hear an opinion and make their own decision. I let them. Again doesn't mean i respect the pastor or the audience as people.

Because i treat them like everyone else? A soldier knows the risks and does it because its worth it to them for whatever reason (money, they love the job, they think the cause is righteous, etc..). Same as everyone else.

I respect Yao and Hakeem for thier work ethic not because they play basketball. By your logic I have to respect GIlbert ARenas too........

Are you trying to say that because i may choose to not respect my boss as a person, that i should try to respect the president as the boss of the United States? WTF does that even mean? you don't understand analogies. Don't do them.

If it makes you feel any better, I would never interrupt a political speech out of my respect for free speech. What I found stupid was your comment that you shouldn't interrupt out of respect for the president.

 

Because their entire existence is respecting the chain of command. According to you, every time they respect and obey an order from a superior officer simply because they are a superior officer, they are proving that their "respect aint worth ****". Every time they salute a superior officer, they are proving how worthless they are.

Everything they do involves respecting the job, irrespective of the man who holds that job.

 

respecting chain of command just means you do as your ordered? everyone in every job does this. has nothing to do with respecting your boss as a person. I know lots of soldiers who mock and hate superior officers.

At the bare minimum, you should respect a fellow human being REGARDLESS of his stature. You don't interrupt much less shout him down.

Yes, that is my logic. Gilbert Arenas is a hard worker, nearly every player in the NBA is because that's what it takes to make it to the NBA. My guess is that yes, you'd respect Gilbert Arenas more than the guy sacking your groceries. Am I wrong?

 

An NBA player is by definition a harder worker than someone who sacks groceries? That's an interesting worldview.

 

What about in a few years when Gilbert Arenas blows the rest of the money he stole from the Washington Wizards and he's sacking your groceries? Would it be an in between amount of respect?

 

Funny how I didn't say that but that's what you took from my post. He said he would respect Hakeem because Hakeem works hard but not Gilbert Arenas. I was pointing out the mistake in assuming that Arenas didn't work hard to make it to where he made it.

I dunno, I'm willing to bet most people would respect him more than your every day sacker.
