Ricky Rubio will not be coming here for another 2 seasons. If they want to invest in a player, do it through the draft. Invest that time in a servicable center. The way things are sounding, that valuable 14th pick may be traded and that would truly be a waste.
Well, i think if the rockets get jefferson or bosh, scola might be gone. Ideally, you would have jefferson and develope hill and work yao in. If yao comes around, then jefferson and yao are the forward center combo with hill off the bench. In that case, scola might just sign his 1 yr tender and move on or someone will offer scola 7m per for 5 years.
I dunno why some of you are talking about Al Jefferson like he's some kind of scrub. look at his stats before he tore his acl last year. He was a beast. Players that tear their acl usually take about a year to recover anyways. IMO before his injury Jefferson was the better player then Bosh.
Maybe not better, just different. Jefferson is a true block player who is physical and bosh is more finesse. Eventhough bosh gets to the line more because he's a better free throw shooter, he shoots alot of jumpers.
So, did you pay attention to what Hedo's been doing as a Raptor? At all? Like the whole drinking and partying around town and not giving effort and getting every single person in the Toronto area pissed off at him? Dwyer is pretty much correct - Hedo had a lot of good performances on national TV, and so people thought he was a lot better than he really was. Btw Raptors fans would do anything to get Hedo off their team. We don't have that with Martin. Just something to know.
Again props to Tornadoofsoul6 for finding this article. WE'll actually have something meaningful to talk about for a couple days.
What worries me is if Jordan Hill explodes to become a 15/8 player next season, and we traded him along with our picks to acquire Bosh.
Jordan Hill is going to be another tough pill we may have to swallow (Carl Landry), but he can be replaced by someone from the draft.
I think with the depth at pf/c in this years draft, they're going to move jefferson. Again, if i was kahn, I wouldn't,but it seems like it will happen. I'm just giving framework. They probably would ask for chase or hill.
I just don't see any plausible scenario in which the Rockets agree to take back Turkoglu's contract. Frankly, they may just pass on Bosh completely instead. Like others have said, the Rockets can still make a play for another high quality big like Al Jefferson without totally ruining their cap situation for the next half decade. Remember, the Rockets' master plan appears to be (a) add a max caliber player in 2010 like Chris Bosh, (b) see how Yao responds from his surgery, with the effect not truly being known until March or April, and (c) have SALARY CAP FLEXIBILITY in 2011 in order to be able to either re-sign Yao and keep the core together or part ways with Yao and "reload" with the max guy, Martin, Brooks and the rest of the gang. Turkoglu's contract would completely ruin those plans. More likely, the Rockets will stand by their position that they possess the best combination of (a) a good fit for Bosh and (b) attractive trade assets for Toronto. If the Raptors insist on peddling Hedo to Houston, then Morey may just say, "Good luck with that!" and let Toronto try to find some other team desperate enough to do that. Guess what? I don't think there's a single one! In the end, Toronto will have to decide if getting some high quality young players and picks (while only having to endure one year of some dead salary) is better than watching your franchise player walk for nothing, most likely to another Eastern Conference team. I think, if the Rockets end up getting Bosh, it will probably be with a package of about $13.2M of salary, the lowest amount necessary to make the trade work cap-wise. Possibly something like this: Jared Jeffries ($6.88M expiring contract) Jordan Hill ($2.67M, young asset) David Andersen ($2.5M in 2010-11, only $185k guaranteed in 2011-12) possibly one of the Knicks' picks and either: (1) the player chosen 14th in the 2010 NBA Draft or (2) the draft rights to Sergio Llull AND the non-guaranteed contracts of Mike Harris and Alexander Johnson Just a guess, though. But I do think that both Les and Morey would prefer to hold onto Shane Battier for next season. I think the piss-poor defense played by the Rockets down the stretch this April without Shane only emphasized how badly the Rockets need him from a TEAM DEFENSE standpoint. With a full season of a Brooks-Martin backcourt, I think Shane's value will be much greater than many people realize.
plus it's all up to Bosh. If Bosh tells them to get it done without Turk they'll have to or risk losing him for nothing.
Bima, My feeling is that while Toronto obviously has a say in this, the far more important voice is that of Chris Bosh. If Bosh makes the Rockets his first choice, then Colagelo will almost have to accept any package that is better than the "baseline" option of simply letting Bosh go. This is because that while Bosh cannot threaten to just sign with the Rockets and leving Toronto with nothing, he can threaten to, say, sign with Miami, New York, Chicago, etc. while leaving Toronto with nothing. So, even though the Rockets have no cap room, as long as the Rockets are Bosh are in cahoots, together, they have almost as much leverage as a team that has cap room. (So, in a way, the fact that there are many teams with huge cap room around the league is a very positive thing for the Rockets). The one difference, as you pointed out previously, is that "better than nothing" is not a meaningless hurdle given that, as a over the cap team, the Rockets will have to make Toronto eat some salary (and even if the salary expires in one year, it's still millions of dollars they have to pay). And this is the one difference between the Rockets and, say, the Heat. If the Heat simply throws a 1st round pick to Toronto or a couple of cheap but useful players, it is "better than nothing." The Rockets have to, say, make Toronto take Jeffries and Andersen as salary ballast. In that instance, they'd have to pay both (a) what the consideration would have been for a S&T by an under the cap team like Miami, and (b) the consideration for having Toronto eat the Jeffries/Andersen salary (even though just for one year). If the salary ballast (or one of them) is, say, Battier, a better player than Jeffries, part (b) below is much smaller since, people probably tend to think Battier is worth his contract much more than Jeffries. In fact, Battier might even have value even to a rebuilding team like Toronto since they might be able to sell him off midyear to a contender for some future rebuilding pieces.
Dont u get it, how are we going to try to trade away Ariza AND Battier, somebody in the starting 5 needs to be able to play some kind of defense... what? you are going to have Martin try to guard Kobe? I dont think so. IF a trade like this were to go down, you would have to keep one of them. Besides, with Brooks, Martin, and Bosh in the starting 5 you dont need any additional playmakers. Somebody needs to be a role player. Hedo not needed!
The Heat could offer Beasley, along with draft picks and a large trade exception in a deal for Bosh. I think this would trump what we could offer, unfortunately. The only thing I see holding this up is whether Bosh really wants to be the man or not, as he's said. If so, I don't think he'd want to play second fiddle to Wade. But who knows - maybe another missed playoffs has soured him on that.
